You will love/hate Janey!
A fan of Bushnell's 4 Blondes only for Janey's storyline I loved Trading Up, which is exclusively Janey's story. I only with there were a sequel so we could find out what happens to her next! She is such a fun character, you will love her and want to scream at her all at once. Great, easy read!

Makes you want to run outside for some fresh air!
The entire plot of this book rests on ONE illogical conceit laid out early in the book; A powerful character's all consuming hatred and fear of Janey Wilcox (relatively powerless ex-professional girlfriend, wannabee and durned lucky underwear model.) Trust me, in the real life social stratum of NYC, Janey would have been nothing more than a bit of lint on a black suit to this guy. When this thread plays itself out later in the book, you'll find yourself wondering how Bushnell ever collected her advance.Silly inconsistencies and loose ends worked for the New York Observer column that was the inspiration for Sex and the City. The limits of a column devoted to a tiny segment of NYC life served Busnell's niggling, superficial observations. But as a book, this approach adds up to nothing more than an oozing pile of flakey, half written bytes.Unfortunately, the ending hints that we haven't seen the last of Janey and her posse. Since SATC, it seems that every word from Bushnell's pen has been written with a movie deal and a sequel in mind.EXTRA, EXTRA!!! The most explosive revelation in this book is that a Victoria's Secret model has CORNS on her toes!!!

Waste of time
I'm actually glad that I downloaded this book to my Kindle...so I know to never buy anything from this author again. If there is a storyline, it's lost on me. I'm half way through the book and still have no idea what the point of the story is. Characters are vapid, pointless souls who have no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I'm always game for a light read, but this one is just a total waste of time.

Super enjoyable and I wish it was longer!
I liked the books and characters but wish there was more time spent on some of them. I feel like I didn't get a complete ending and that there was a lot left undone. Overall I liked the book a lot, just wish there was more to come.

It dragged on forever...
I was halfway through the book when I realized I had no idea what the plot was about!! The end was lame and similar to the content found throughout the book. It was a good example of how stupid people, who think they are smart, manipulate circumstances that potentially could/would have had the same outcome without the influence of the main character. The story dragged on forever. Who was the good guy? Who was the bad guy? What happened to Mimi in the end. The characters were a bore. This is my first book from an author I had heard so much good about. I was not impressed. It was vulgur and boring and shallow. And ugly. It felt disorganized. :(

Fun summer read
I liked the plot and the insider information of a New York trophy wife. That it's fun and a lot of shopping and lunch but heartache too

A good read... if you have nothing else to do.
I was bored and looking for the book equivalent of a chick flick to read on breaks at work. Still not sure how I managed to finish this one considering that for the first 60% nothing remotely interesting happens. The characters are superficial and dull with it, there isn't a single one of them I formed any attachment to. The central character, Janey, is a manipulative, self-absorbed, social climber who learns absolutely nothing. Despite a hastily written in observation, from one of the few other characters who favours her, she remains unlikeable, much like the novel as a whole.

One fifth is a better story
I received a very old copy and the story isn't as gripping as one Fith avenue.
