Not perfect but very highly recommended. - I really enjoy using Jump math with homeschooling. I do wish I could find a full instructional book or video to compliment it, however, it is usable on its own. I am having my children skim through the notebook problems instead of taking hours to recopy them and only use those problems when I need extras to be sure they understand a concept. I have started to use Books 7.1 and 7.2 as in the upper levels I wanted more book work without wasting time recopying. I do use many other math tools (workbooks, computer programs and manipulatives for example), but this could be used as a stand alone... Pros: Builds lessons by first laying a framework and slowly building on to it. Excellent examples. Kids can go at their own pace. Able to teach in short sessions. Cons: Sometimes inadequate instructions for problems. Notebook sessions take 10x longer to recopy than do so only a few are actually useful. Watch for errors... each book has a few errors. Editor's proofreading skills are lacking. Review: Amazing, best out there! - This is one of the most elegant method of teaching. I love the build up of skills and concepts in an incremental fashion. It shows a recognition that practice and skills are important but that it doesn't come as a trade off to deeper understanding. I'm a math parent and have worked with so many different books and this one shows thoughtfulness and knowledge of how people/kids learn. My daughter hardly needs an explanation as the exercises "explain" themselves. Well done.

JUMP math rocks!
These math text are the absolute greatest for reluctant math students. My son is now excelling at his work, despite his difficulty remembering number facts. John Mighton's philosophy is that everyone can master math, and the books aim to make that possible. If your child is having trouble I would absolutely check these out. Jump Math has a website which allows you to look at alot of pages, so you will be able to see if the books are likely to meet your child's needs.

Another great math product from the JUMP Math folks. Easy to use and delivers a quality basic math program.

Nothing novel
This is really just a bunch of dry worksheets bound into a book. Although the breadth of material covered is a full year of curriculum, math exercises do not strike me as engaging to struggling students.

This is an excellent source to compliment the math that's going on in schools right now. It breaks concepts down in simple, manageable, and tangible sequences. As an educator for the last 10 years, this is a great source for your child!
