LeapFrog My Pal Scout (Frustration Free Packaging)

This toy is adorable. They make it for a boy or a girl. We have given it as a baby shower gift for years. Everyone loves it. It is customizable. Not very expensive at all. Our granddaughter has had this same toy for five years. It is entertaining for a newborn with the music and the voice customization, but it carries them well past their toddler years with the songs. Very entertaining.

What a great toy. Simply plug into your USB port, upload information about your child's name and things that he likes, and you are good to go. Scout says his name, talks to him, sings choice songs with him, and he absolutely ADORES it.The little hard drive inside of Scout is easy for me to get to, but well protected from my child. It slips into a pouch that goes in Scout's backside that has a Velcro enclosure that is not easy to open for an infant. The toy is not the softest stuffed animal, but considering that it has electronics inside of it that allow it to talk and play music, the quality is really nice. As the child grows, you can change the things Scout says and does so that Scout can grow with the child. Very impressive and thoughtful, yet simple design.Our son is now 6-months old, and we have had this product for about 2 months. He loved it when he first saw it and he loves it now. He goes bananas when Scout starts talking to him, and he loves to cuddle with Scout.This toy has brought hours of enjoyment to our son and was relatively inexpensive (I think right around $20 - the same price for the Sophie the Giraffe rubber squeaky toy, which doesn't talk and broke within a week or two of use.There is no comparison to other toys that I've seen - this one is absolutely fantastic and highly recommended.

I had a little difficulty connecting Scout to my phone to personalize him. I suppose my phone is a little outdated. Luckily he successfully connected to my MacBook! My son really loves his other leapfrog toys, he loves Scout! He is enamored with this My Pals 2 toy! I think Scout is really adorable too, with a sweet little voice that I don’t mind hearing sing all day long. I definitely recommend this toy to anyone with a toddler!

UPDATE:My original review is below. After contacting LeapFrog they are resolving the situation and sending us a new Scout so I'm giving it 5 stars. I'm thrilled with this result as it's a great toy and we were really disappointed when it broke so quickly. Fingers crossed that we have better luck with the replacement.*********************My daughter received "Violet" 4 years ago and we loved it. So much that I've been getting this gift for all my friends with little kids. However, then it came time to get one for my son and we bought this Scout. I noticed right away that the quality is not as good as the older Violet, but the new generation of these are cheaper, so I guess that is the tradeoff. I was still happy with the purchase. However, a week into owning it, when I tried to put him into "lullaby" mode Scout turned into a monotone, high pitched whining noise and wouldn't stop until I reach in and turned it manually off. It started happening every week and now it is happening almost every night, so basically unusable. I'm past my return window for Amazon so I'm trying to work this out with LeapFrog. I'll update my review depending on what they say. So far they've told me it's the batteries (ahem, BS). I give it 2 stars because I love the idea and hoping that I just got a "bad" one. If the company follows through with a replacement, I'll probably bump my rating higher.

Happy with this item, love that you can program your child’s name to make it more personal. Super cute

The media could not be loaded. Being customizable sets this apart from the rest. It was very easy to customize, the hardest part is finding a phone or tablet these days with a aux port which you need in order to customize the toy. My son loves Scout and has everything he makes almost, and all are great products. This Scout is by far the best one yet. Its My 1 year Olds favorite toy. Being able to have it know the child's name, favorite color and animal and food. By saying his name it gets his attention and then he's learning animal sounds, or has 5 min sleep music which he sleeps with his scout. We have only had this a week so far. He has the other two talking animals the elephant and the fisher price dog and he didn't get into either of them the way he has with Scout. I also like there is a girl option Violet. This is a must for parents with kids 2-3 and under. Also the 3-1 scout walker is a great product too, Works in the laying, sitting, and walking positions and when in walking position also doubles as activity table. We started with the mini Scout that would clip onto his carseat, stroller, and crib. This was a favorite but is outgrown it and did a upgrade haha. Don't think twice about getting this toy, especially as awesome as it is for under $25.
