Tesla Coil Lighter, First Impressions! (Full review to follow after a month or more of use)
This was the cheapest price I could find on this lighter, only $21.75 Shipped! Every other online listing I could find for this device was $30 or more. I received it 5-days after placing the order & everything was as described. Ive only been using it for a few hours but so far this thing ROCKS! I mean its a lighter that produces a F-ING PLASMA BEAM FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! If you're a Star Wars or SyFy fan in general, how could you not be in AWE over this awesome little device, but I digress. The fact that these are manufactured in China doesn't exactly instill a lot of confidence regarding the build quality & QT (Quality Control), however China occasionally surprises me with decent quality devices at very reasonable prices, so I'm hoping that's the case here. The finish on it is quite nice but as with most glossy finishes it scratches VERY easily, so keep that in mind if you store it in a pocket or bag with loose change or whatnot. I would recommend keeping it in your 5th pocket by itself, however if your going to put it in a back pack, hand bag or purse then I highly suggest you put it into the little velvet pouch that it came with first, that way the finish will be protected from change or other loose items. If scratches on the finish is a concern, then you could always buy a clear vinyl LCD screen protector & cut it to fit the Tesla lighter, just a suggestion. So far I'm pretty impressed with this Tesla Coil Lighter, however this is essentially just a first impressions, only time will tell how good the tech & build quality is in the long run.MAKE SURE TO READ THE SAFETY WARNINGS! This device is so simple to use that it doesn't even need an instruction manual, however it comes with some Safety Warnings that you should ALWAYS KEEP IN MIND! I'll just cover the important ones:DO NOT keep the flame lit for more than 5 seconds at a time. First off, I just want to clarify that this device DOES NOT produce a flame, it produces a Plasma Arc Beam, so I'm not sure why it says "flame" in the safety manual but I digress. In regards to the proper use & longevity of this device I think this is probably the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING to keep in mind. Plasma arc beams produce a significant amount of heat & energy, so if this device is only designed to handle that heat & energy for 5-seconds at a time, then you would be VERY WISE to heed that advice. I noticed that several of the bad reviews on this device (which are few & far between) seemed like they could very possibly be user error & NOT a defect of the device. I'd bet money that most of the "Mine died in 3 days" or "Worked great for a week & then stopped working" reviews are because of user error & NOT a defect of the device. Now don't get me wrong here, even with the best QT there's always an occasional defective unit, however I strongly suspect that user error is the main cause in a lot of the bad reviews. I can just imagine zealous people getting these & immediately chucking the Safety Warnings in the trash, then ignorantly use the device improperly by continually firing it for over 5sec, WHICH IT IS NOT DESIGNED FOR! Then when the device stops working they call it a POS, leave a bad review & then expect a replacement or refund for their own ignorance. You know certain people (Pyro's) will be firing these things like CRAZY, burning as many different materials as possible just to see what happens. Now I completely understand wanting to experiment with these & see how the plasma beam effects different materials, however its not very difficult to READ THE SAFETY WARNINGS FIRST, use the device PROPERLY & ALWAYS DO THINGS RESPONSIBLY!In a nut shell: DO NOT FIRE THE BEAM FOR LONGER THAN 5sec AT A TIME & DO NOT OVERCHARGE THE DEIVCE! When the Red Charging Indicator Light goes out UNPLUG THE DEVICE ASAP! Follow these two VERY SIMPLE instructions & you should enjoy your Tesla Coil Lighter for years.Another important Safety Warning:DO NOT LET CHILDREN GET A HOLD OF THIS DEVICE. These devices are essentially tasers, so if bare skin contacts the plasma beam it will burn the area & send a shock through your body (NOT A FUN EXPERIENCE!). There is a YouTube video where a guy has a similar plasma lighter & he touches the beam with his bare finger, needless to say he quickly regretted it. So if you have kids & especially rebellious teens, KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR TESLA LIGHTER!

Does exactly what it was designed to do
This is pretty cool!+ Has a nice heavy feel to it+ has a pretty cool sound (though a little high pitched)+ It came with a small brown bag to protect it from getting scratches when your not using it.+ came with a charger cord+ It'll light paper and leaves, melt plastic, and is useful for cutting or finishing the ends of nylon - or any other similar type of - rope+ The two points that the electricity jumps between seem to be made of some sort of "non-stick" material, because things that melt like plastic will pop right off with a little coaxing from a knife or similar tool, though I cant promise that everything will come off that easily.+ you can light things from any angle and you wont get burnt+ its bright enough to work as an emergency candle, though not as bright as a normal flame- charger cord isn't very long- I'm not sure how it will hold up if dropped in water- Probably the biggest problem is the size of the space that the electricity jumps across, you have about 1/2" to a 1/4" of space. Which means that it will only light things that fits in the space. It just wasn't designed to light big things.I personally use this as my fuse lighter for fireworks and other related things because its wind proof (the wind will bend the beam but it wont put it out and it takes a lot more wind than a normal lighter) and you can light things at any angle. It could work to light campfire's and such, though it'd be easier to use a normal lighter for that.I've only had this for a week or so, but so far its done exactly what it was designed to do. I wouldn't buy this to replace a campfire lighter, but if your looking for an easier way to light fireworks and things that require awkward lighting angles this is for you!Plus, its just plain cool ;)
