Second Engine Lock - First Of This Variety
I owned the cheaper Panther lock made of powder coated steel and it corroded within a year or two to the point that it was worthless and not protecting my kicker motor in any way. I decided that I'd need to spend more money for a better lock but was unable to find any currently manufactured versions that I liked or that would fit in a similar manner...until I found this one. I purchased it in early Summer 2021 and have been in salt and fresh water with it and, so far, it's holding up well. It took some extra handling to install but if you follow directions it should fit well. Time will tell as to its ability to outlast the elements for more than a year or two. Fingers crossed!

Good quality
Received this engine lock yesterday. This product is a good quality, heavy duty unit that installed pretty easily. The boat is used exclusively in salt water, so I put some marine grease into the lock hole and a piece of duct tape over it to keep corrosion out of the locking mechanism.

Good product, difficult to open at first, but very good.
A bit difficult to open at first but another that it works well. I left my Honda 5hp engine outside all night at my holiday home at Zinkwazi Beach South Africa and nobody even tried to tamper with it. It was much better than having to lift the engine off the boat and put it inside the house every night. I only had to put the engine on once for the entire vacation there. It was difficult to demount at first but I made a video on YouTube on how to open it properly.

Sturdy bracket- 8HP 4stroke Mercury
Heavy duty outboard bracket. Looks like it would take someone a long time to break it.Pros: Stainless and heavy duty.Cons: Instructions were very bad. Just 4 pictures. YouTube did not have anything either. So it's a big guessing game. And the bracket in the middle does not show up on the 4 pictures. So I finally figured out you put the piece with the middle bracket in between the two tighteners, then slide the other piece into it. I had to mount upside down, that's the only way it fit. And now the key hole is facing up to catch water. So I wrapped black tape around it to water proof. And those two little L bracket didn't fit either, so they are not installed.

Good idea poorly implemented
The product is made out of stainless steel and the metal is thick - would be definitely be hard to cut. The idea is also valid, however this is where my good comments end.1. Manual. I know that I am not the only one with this issue as four small out of focus picture is NOT a manual. If you are going to follow Ikea's guidance - do it like Ikea does - step by step pictures with parts and options.2. The lick includes 3 pads: 2 thin and 1 thick. After messing with different ways to set them up I realized that the bottom part of the lock uses the thin pad and the upper part can use either thin or tick pad depending on the size of the outboard bolts. In my car the thin was was too thin and thick make the lock impossible to close. I ended up cutting the thick one to make it a bit thinner and now the lock fits snug.3. The 'secure' lock. Again, the idea is valid. I have CISA locks on my boat and no locksmith would touch that lock - I tried. This lock looks similar to CISA - definitely not as secure, but there is no reason to go crazy here. Here is a question though: why does the key fall out of the lock the moment it is turned to the lock position??? You do realize that some of us might decide to actually use our outboards on the water and this wonderful design will provide fish with entertainment and us with an experience of cutting off our fancy lock to remove the motor.Guys, it's fine to charge good money for a good product, but you need to concentrate on execution, not just design.

Made really well, but a little awkward to install
Took me a bit to understand how it opened but once I got it, it was easy. You definitely want a tight fit or it will vibrate on the engine mounts. But looks impressive as a deterrent for sure. Does sort of block the lever for lifting the motor up but I can still reach it. It’s made well and worth buying.

Very sturdy and looks good. Highly recommend
Had to work with it a little bit to get it on, but it went on without any alterations. It comes with several different sizes of double sided foam to make sure its snug. Put it on the 9.9 Yamaha on my Duckworth Pacific Pro. It rattles just a little, but not super noticeable. It is very sturdy and there is no way someone is getting that kicker off without making a whole bunch of noise. I highly recommend this product.

Too long and extremely heavy monsterous lock; a good anchor, but terrible outboard lock
This Panther lock is very strong, but way to long and heavy for any outboard under 20 hp. We had one previously and found it hard to install with internal pieces and foam, and too big and heavy for our outboard. Outboard manufacturers go to extremes to build lightweight outboards. Why then add a 4 pound monster heavy lock. We bught a Motorloc Atlantic 170 instead. It is very secure and a way better fit. Motorloc 230 is sold here on Amazon or you can buy smaller sizes direct from Motorloc online. I never endorse brands online, but the Panther is such a glunk, buy it for an anchor. If you want a beautiful secure outboard lock order a Motorloc Atlantic. Motorloc has a CA dealer you can phone and they ship fast.
