Tabby's First Quest (Kitten Kingdom #1) (1)

My 1st grader loved it.

Really disappointed in this book and even more bummed I bought the second one. I read this with my 6 year old and she did enjoy the adventure aspects of it, but the values of the characters were frustratingly flawed. In the book, the main character made a mistake, but instead of going to adults or others who could really help fix the mistake, she decided she could do it on her own, kept getting herself and her cohorts into more trouble and more dangerous situations and, of course, having everything work out and became the hero of the land. I had to constantly ask my daughter, “is she making the right choice” and “what should she have really done?” I value that we were able to work through the decisions together, but if this book is being bought for a child who will read it independently, don’t fall for the cutesy popular marketing- buy something else.

I'm a 28 year old who is passionate about children's books and kid's TV shows. I saw this at the bookstore and read the first few pages. I was immediately sucked into the three royal kitties personalities. The adventure was fun and fast paced. Written really well and easy to picture what was happening. Enjoyed the main kittens and the villain is interesting too. Would recommend for kids and any other adult who enjoys a good adventure.
