In this bold thriller peppered with dark humor and interlocking mystery, an eccentric mountain man is on the run from the authorities, surviving the winter by breaking into empty vacation homes in a remote community. Regularly calling into radio talk shows where he has acquired the nickname "Buster" to rant about the impending Inversion at the turn of the millennium, he is haunted by visions of being lost at sea, and memories of his former life as a family man.

Biology gives you a brain. Life turns it into a mind.
An unforgettable performance by Rami Malik, who plays the role of Jonah, a young man who is tortured by his thoughts. Living a life of boredom, with no purpose or meaning. He spends his nights working in a motel and spends his days with his wife and young daughter. Things take a turn for the worse when a stranger arrives at the hotel and starts to play mind games with Jonah, which lead to anger, frustration, and an unfortunate outcome. From what I made of this movie... we all have an elephant and rider inside our minds! Get them working together and life can be like paradise, yet if you let the rider roam around on his own without any clarity & direction, he will cause you havoc.A great film, especially if you're into thrillers, psychology and the games that the human mind can play on our worst fears and desires.

Bizarre arthouse thriller is certainly an acquired taste
Oddball non-linear drama that is so deliberately paced and enigmatically structured that you may lose interest long before things start to make sense. 'Buster's Mal Heart' would almost be offensively boring if it were not for Rami Malek's fine performance that captures the loneliness and madness of a man torn between ordered faith and chaotic freedom, but it's simply not enough to save a frustratingly dull film that has clearly mistaken its stilted, quiet style for something resembling substance. It's essentially 'Fight Club' with a religious dimension but none of the pace, violence, wit or daring. Writer/director Sarah Adina Smith shows some promise as a director even if her screenwriting skills leave something to be desired.
