Great backpack, tons of room for so compact a case! UPDATED 2 YEARS USE Rating 6+
UPDATED about 2 years in 7/2019 Well, 2 years in and I still have little but good to say about this bag! It's still my daily work carry bag. I regularly carry 2 (sometimes 3 :/) laptops in it as well as... a bunch of other stuff. I regularly go through it to reduce the accumulating junk, but otherwise I've had no issues and it still looks darn good, almost new even! This is a major record for me, I usually switch up a couple of times a year. Though I do still look, I've not seen anything that looks to beat this for my use. Here's why: 1) the grid-it system. I have and have used the standalone grid-it elsewhere, but this affixed version, with the fully opening compartment is superior for holding everything to the vertical so you don't have the usual swamp of stuff you have to dig through to find anything. Pouches "bag out" and puddle all your stuff unless they're too small to be very usable. I have a bunch of stuff strapped to the grid-it, when I open the compartment I can immediately find what I am looking for. 2) The semi-hardness. This isn't a metal briefcase or hard leather case, but the surfaces are stiff enough that it doesn't look all "slouchy" and messy when you set it down. It's not trying to melt into the floor like most soft backpacks. 3) The durability. I use this every day. In the car I throw it on the floor, at work on the desk, at home wherever it ends up. Not a popped stitch, scraped botton, dirt smudge, stain, fade nor broken zipper. 4) Organization. An top of the grid-it compartment, there's more organizational work done. There are 2 big/semi-flat compartments. I find I can easily fit my work laptop, my smaller personal laptop in the 2 compartments, though one's intended for tablets. I also all to often have to carry yet another fullsize laptop, and it will fit in the center open space fine, to the dismay of my shoulder/back because I still sling-carry it! I also carry a whole bunch of other stuff. Pens, pencils, rolls of quick-tape, an xacto knife,3 chargers and a universal charger, reusable grocery bags a mouse, batteries.... and a whole bunch more. And I can find any of it in a few seconds. 5) The price. I have the tech nerd's addiction to progress. Thus I have quite a lot of bags. I threw away/donated a couple of dozen when I moved, and still have a large pile. I really like some other luggage for other purposes, but for $50 this is the best daily pack I can still find. That's amazing value, I've payed over $400 for other bags/purposes. 6) The style. This is a conservative/techie bag. It's understated, business casual etc. No wild and cool stuff, which is perfect for my use. My travel luggage can be bright and fun, but I don't want this to stand out. It still has garnered compliments quite a few times. Which is kind of weird really, people usually compliment stuff that stands out, this just remains very neat and holds a bunch of stuff. It's just very good at it. -0.1 The only negative I have is the zipper pulls, and it's a small one. At least when I got mine, the screws in the end of the pulls that holds the neat wood cylinders on were a bit loose. I lost 3 or 4 of them before I noticed. However, when I contacted the company they rapidly sent me new wood and new ends! Unfortunately by the time they arrived, 2 more had fallen off because tightening by hand wasn't enough, and my puppy ate the rest off lol (numbers may be off a bit there). Puppy also ate the wood off the ones I tightened enough. Well, it's all he chewed up so the bag took one for the team. TIP: put some locktite, use pliers or in some way IMMEDIATELY make sure the zipper pull tips are not going to fall off. And keep away from puppy. This problem has hopefully been addressed by now though. -0.001 I know it's wrong, bad on my back and neck and all and I really should use both straps, but I don't want to apparently. Would be great if the straps were alter-able to be either side or center, but this is hardly a real complaint. Maybe I'll contact them again and see if I can Buy more pull-tips and wood, not their fault totally, and I certainly am getting my money's worth! Original review from October 31, 2016: Great backpack (though I wear it sling style on one shoulder). Plenty of room, mine carries 2 laptops (one fullsize, one a light style) because I have both a work and personal laptop. The grid-it front area is awesome, I have mine filled with a bluray burner, universal power adapter, batteries, mouse etc etc etc. The bag both holds a lot, and keeps is well organized and contained so it's not sloppy and things are easy to find. It looks good too, very tight and neat on the outside. I DO wish it had something to hold a water bottle outside, and some attachment points to carry something clipped on occasionally, but I'll figure out how to add that sometime!

Probably the best laptop backpack I have ever purchased...
I received the backpack after LOTS of research for what to carry my new MacBook Pro 15" laptop (late 2016 model) around in. I went with this pack mostly because of the slim design and the built-in Grid-It system. I was not disappointed. First impression is that the pack is made very well and the design is exactly what I wanted. The Grid-It system is amazingly simple and works better than I had hoped. The material is almost a denim feel and the zippers appear to be made of all metal. When I started loading all my items from my old bag, I noticed that one of the zipper pulls was missing a tiny screw. Visually, it was no big deal, but the zipper's handle would easily come off if not replaced. I simply went to the Cocoon web site and found the email address for customer service. I send one email explaining the problem and in less than a week I had two new replacement zipper handles. Amazing service!

Good bag, a few flaws.
Have searched for a smallish plane carry-on backpack for my computer and have bought all sorts of bags (almost 10). Some proved to be too big, others too floppy. Because I have a carryon with me, it just needed a small additional computer bag that doesn't freak out the airline baggage check-in hostesses, and that can carry my headphones, a little work material, my comp, chargers, small bathroom toiletries, etc. So I was excited about this one, and indeed it proved to be what I was looking for. The moulded look is stylish. I don't like the floppy cloth backpack versions. I needed something that was a little businesslike. The space for little knick-knacks is the correct size for me. I was especially excited about the "Grid-It" concept because I hate how things flop to a bottom mess in most bags. Well, it's a good idea but works ish-ish. Main problem is that it can't hold much! And to think I paid so much for it! Once you put in a few wires, small hand sanitizer, my pill box, charger, etc . . . the grid is full and tight and it doesn't carry too much. With all the space in the compartment, I think this was a design flaw. It leaves most of this compartment empty unless you let things flop to the bottom. They almost needed to have had 2 grids, either on the back and front so you can pack in more, or an extractable grid that you can insert when you need it. I also found the grid elastic to be too tight - getting much into the grid is hard work - it could afford to be a little more flexible. My grid compartment now rides half empty with most stuff I want to carry left at home (defeats the purpose). But all is not lost - you can buy an extra "grid-it" panel on Amazon (see here for suggestion http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Organizer-Electronics-Accessories-Healthcare/dp/B00Q664KVC?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00) In the main computer compartment - good and slim, but they have a compartment for the computer itself, a compartment for a tablet and a compartment for papers? Far too many. the compartment separators consume all the space available so you can't fit much in! I ended up cutting out the tablet compartment/separators, so that all I have left now is a laptop compartment and the remaining undivided space. Works perfectly! My main gripe with this bag is the straps. First is that design-wise they are completely unimaginative and boring. completely unimaginative. But more seriously, the workmanship is poor. Day 2, having hardly used the bag yet, one of the strap corners started coming loose! (see photo). I figure it's poor stitching. Maybe I just got unlucky, but many people seem to have had the same problem with their bags, so it's really a matter of quality control and poor company PR and response to clients complaints. Pity. I intend to find a cobbler to repair mine, but for this reason I would probably not buy the bag again. But then I probably would too because it's the closest I've come to my perfect fit. A second complaint is the little key-holder strap that they have in the top, front pocket. Great idea but it should be in the main "Grip-It" compartment, not that small pocket. Mine got caught in the zipper. Bad, I tried all manner of things to get it unstuck but to no avail. I finally had to cut and snip it out of the zipper, but by which time I had tried using force, etc. It left my zipper open at both ends. I managed to feed the zipper loops back into the slider, but have no confidence now that it will last or is safe. One final suggestion - I noticed that if I put my computer in it's compartment (I use a macbook air), and set it on the ground, it is not protected. Happened once and it ht the ground hard. I have another bag that suspends the computer half an inch from the bottom of the bag. Could cocoon make a design change on this bag. Or at least pad the bottom. For now I am carrying my computer in a protective soft sleeve to ensure it doesn't ht the ground again . . . but that's a sign of poor design on Cocoon's part. OK, one last, last thing - I wish there was an all-black version instead of this charcoal gray.
