Creative Haven Midnight Forest Coloring Book: Animal Designs on a Dramatic Black Background (Adult Coloring Books: Animals)

Gorgeous Animal Designs at Night with Black backgrounds
The media could not be loaded. This is my second book by Lindsey Boylan where the backgrounds are pre-filled in with flat mat black and the design stretches over the entire page from side to side. I really love the way that my coloring “pops” off the page with this style. I have found that my pastel and neon colors really show up in a whole new way. There are 31 designs in the coloring book and they are all quite imaginative. The artist has filled in the animals with lovely flowers and motifs to making coloring them even more fun. I am a huge fan of animal scenes and having them with the black background makes this a new and unique book in my coloring collection. There are many animals in the book, including a gorgeous howling wolf, a rabbit, some mice, and even an owl. The animals are set in an imaginative forest with lots of great plants and flowers to color.Creative Haven books are always a good quality paper and my pencils and gel pens generally work well with them. My markers almost always bleed through. Not too worry, though, as they only print designs on one side of the page. The backside is left blank. If you don't remove the page from the book to color, you should put a piece of freezer paper, cardstock, chipboard, or even a couple of sheets of good weight paper behind the page as you work so it won't bleed through to the following page. If you do remove the pages, the publishers have provided nicely perforated pages for easy removal.

Transported to the Forest from My Kitchen Table
I am a new, soon-to-be 70 coloring addict. Most of the animals in Midnight Forest have a special look to their faces--sweet, stealthy, watchful, cuddly, and their surroundings are interesting. This is a great book for those of us entering "A Room of One's Own" for the first time, trying out different pencils, gel pens, markers, etc. The small spaces are not too small and the larger areas are not too big. Thus, you can learn what you want from other coloring books (I already have eight--many from Creative Haven--because I like diversity.) One day I'm in a dark, beautiful jungle and the next diving in the ocean. If you have not tried these black background books, you are missing a fun experience. Don't forget to give it sparkle over the colored pencil work. After all, there's a full moon to catch the colors.

This is truly a GREAT BOOK!!!!!
First of all, I just love Creative Haven Adult Coloring Books. I bought this one and was so excited for it to arrive!!! My granddaughter came home from school and saw it and fell in love with it - she is almost 10 years old and loves to color with me!!! She was so enchanted with this book that I gave it to her so I haven't used it yet but she has done a couple of pages and it is her favorite book! I did order another one which I should get this week! As for the quality, pictures, etc.... as with all Creative Haven books - they are just awesome!!!!!!

I Have A Little Problem With This One
This is one of the only coloring books that I have that I don't want to mess up the pictures by coloring them. It's a strange thing, but I like all the illustrations and on some of them, I am afraid I will mess them up. It's a bit irrational because when I do finally chose one to color, it turns out perfectly fine and usually very pretty. I love the artwork in Midnight Forest. I also love the Creative Haven books and I have a several and they are all my favorites-especially the animal ones. This book is really fun to work in. The paper is a bit thin, but Prisma Color pencils really pop with the black background. I bet gel pens would work okay in this book but may bleed through to the other side, but the bright colors would be really cool with the black. All in all, great artwork. The one sided pages are perforated for easy removal, but the paper is a little thin- not horrible though. Fun Book-next time I use it, I am going to close my eyes and just pick a picture to color and go for it.

This fun adult coloring book is especially great to use with ...
This fun adult coloring book is especially great to use with my metallic colored pencils because of the black paper background, they really pop! Creative Haven produces such beautiful coloring books and this one is no exception. The quality of the drawings is superb. Each design is single sided as with all Creative Haven coloring books, but it is always recommended when using colored markers and some gel pens to put a protective sheet of heavy paper between pages in case of bleed through. You can't go wrong with Creative Haven brand coloring books for the quality and quantity of pages as well as the reasonable price. A great friend to coloring enthusiasts! : )

Nice book bad paper!
Update: I contacted Dover Publishing and I couldn't have gotten better customer service. They offered me any book on thier site of equal or less value to replace the Midnight Forest. Great customer service is far and few between this day and age. The fact that they recognized the problem and offered to replace my book was tops in my opinion. Changed my review to three stars for this.I love the designs in the book the problem is the cheap paper used. My pencils build up and won't separate even with a blender. It's also way to thin. I'm so disappointed in Dover over this book. I have other Dover coloring books that have quality paper. Going to contact Dover about this.

Love the Black Backgrounds
This is a decent coloring book, but I wouldn’t have bought it without the uniqueness factor of the black backgrounds.Pros:1. Black background.2. Single-page design.3. Good value for the price.4. Perforated pages for easy removal.Cons:1. Very thin paper (put a sheet between pages - if using markers - to avoid bleeding through).2. The art isn’t as sophisticated/complicated as I prefer. All in all, a solid purchase, even though I’m not excited by all of the illustrations.

A different adult colouring book
I like this adult colouring book a lot. I like especially the difference that it has a black background to each picture which is on one page for each so you can use different media. I have completed one page so far this being the owl. Well when you start colouring with bright coloured pencils and a little bit of of glitter gel pen on the edge of the feathers and just a little on a few of the flowers the whole picture pops out of the page with a 3D effect. it is especially good if you choose the nice bright colours with total opposite shades together and blend them into each other which you can do with coloured pencils. I am sure it is the black background that gives this effect. can highly recommend this lovely different colouring book.

Quite inspiring
A friend of mine ordered Midnight Garden which inspired me to order Midnight Forest because I have a glut of colouring books with flowers in and I'm really impressed, the black backgrounds truly do add another dimension. The paper is good quality but I have yet to see how it works with my pencils, printed on one side and perforated so you can remove them should you wish to do so, I think this could be a little gem, there's a good variety of animals and birds and some are out of the ordinary which is nice. I'll try to come back and update on how my pencils behave when I've completed my first picture.

Black background enhances colours
Really pleased with this book it's the 2nd book I've purchased from creative haven with the black backgrounds the other was a book of mandalas both I've enjoyed as I find the colours really do look bright on the black background both books have single side pages which are perforated if you want to remove and colour or frame I always use a few pages of paper or card behind the page to ensure pens don't bleed through to the next picture.I have uploaded 2 pictures I've coloured.

Great variety of effective drawings
Fantastic variety. I was compelled to use pens, including strong marker and 2 backing sheets, to get maximum colour impact. Pencil just didn't seem apt. Too many hearts overall though, especially as I'm compelled to colour them red. Never quite sure why hearts are used in drawings, or what they symbolise.I've hung a few up.
