Hawk Bill Pocket Knife – Folding Stainless-Steel Blade with Partial Serrated Edge – Hooked Utility Pocketknife with Belt Clip by Whetstone

I wanted a hawk-billed knife for a while, and especially wanted a "hybrid", one with both a smooth and serrated edge combined. For the price of this one I expected a cheap-feeling, wobbly knife, but quite the opposite is true. The blade has a very nice weight and the blade opens and closes very cleanly. It does have a lock that is easy to disengage. The blade itself is more like to my Buck knives than any other non-Buck knife I have owned. It has a nice clean look with no milling marks. The handle has some nice rounded grip ridges on the back that contact your hand perfectly at the pinky side/bottom of your palm and at the thumb and forefinger that make the knife feel very secure in your hand. Once a few drops of fine oil were applied, it was very easy to slide this open with my thumb. The riveting is very tight, as all of them are hex screws, making the knife very easy to disassemble if needed. Sharpness: the blade came sharp, but of course I always like to push it, so with some good honing oil and the edge of a polishing stone with just a few passes I would say I got it surgical sharp. Cuts cardboard and rope like butter. I'd imagine this would be great for game, and I note the handle on one side, which you cannot see in the picture, has three open slots and an open back that will allow any fluids to just pass through. As someone who has many knives and has enjoyed knives for years, I would have paid ten times what I did for this knife had I found it locally and saw it as it is. This knife would make a very nice field knife or a home utility knife due to its comfort, sharpness, and size.

Pretty good for $7 I put this knife in an order as a promoted Add In item figuring that for $7 it would be a throw away at worst and might have some real value at best. When it arrived, it was a pleasant surprise. The fit and finish are damned good for the price point and the design is interesting enough to make this a keeper. It vaguely reminds me of a cross between a gardening hook, a Linoleum knife and the Spyderco Civilian. It has an almost comically hooked “beak” that could easily be mistaken for a gardening implement, however that would be a mistake. In several trials on different materials showed that the hook-bill really digs in with a slicing cut which could make this a great last resort defensive knife. The only element I do not like much if the profile. Having an exaggerated hook, the knife is rather wide when folded. Pros: - Great fit & finish for the money - Pretty sharp out of the box - Feels very solid - Smooth opening and closing - Assembled with Allen screws rather than rivets - Locks up really well - Thumb stud is very usable Cons: - Sold as ”Whetstone” but is an Edgetech - 440c has a lot of variability in quality, we will see how well it holds up - The grind is a little uneven around the recurve, but for $7 what the heck - The profile is wide, especially compared to a Civilian or a Matriarch

Alright boys and girls, let's get to the point (pun intended) I bought this hawk bill blade for multi use (cutting wire, peeling fruit, gutting people alive) and I'm really happy because of the combination of size, clip, cost, and handle material. The tip seems a bit brittle for a utility knife. But for the price, hey, I'll just get a new one if it breaks. The clip works pretty well, as it stays in place when I need it to. The base of the blade has thumbs wells for easy opening. How many times have you had to drop what you're doing, just to open your knife? You won't do that again with this one. It takes exactly one thumb rotation in counter clockwise direction to open this bad boy up. A one handed job (hehehe). The blade is stainless steel and locks into place so there's no accidental closing and surprise amputation of your fingers. It came pretty sharp already so I didn't have to worry about sharpening, although if you've never sharpened a hawk bill blade before, then I highly recommend you look it up on youtube. Excellent quality knife at an amazing price point under $15 and free shipping. Perfect for harvesting grapes and vine vegetables. Purchased this knife for harvesting our grapes (at least the ones I picked) and vine vegetables - zucchini, cucumbers, melons, tomatoes and peppers. I wanted a hook shaped harvest knife I could fold and one that has a serrated section for cutting the tougher vines. I stumbled on this Whetstone Cutlery blade while doing a search on Amazon. I am a big Cold Steel and CKRT fan and they did not have anything like this knife - especially at this price point. After reading all of the reviews I decided to order and I am very happy with this purchase. Knife came sharp and I used it immediately for harvesting grapes as well as our vine veggies. Cleaned it up and sharpened it after the first week of use and it took a razor edge on my Tormek sharpener. It is a bit tricky to sharpen due to the curve and serrated base. I used the same jig as I use for sharpening my pruners. Will put it to good use for the rest of this season and I expect many more years to come. This is a very functional knife for any farm/garden harvesting applications. Highly recommend.

I've bought several M-Tech knives off of Amazon and I've always been impressed with they're build quality! They fell like a much more expensive knife than they are, they're heavy duty and there is little to no play in the blade! This knife in particular has a very hefty thick blade that's very sharp and it's quickly become one of my favorite knifes that I carry on me almost all the time. I love the shape of this blade! If you are looking for an inexpensive but very sturdy well built knife then look no further! If the shape of this knife isn't exactly what you're looking for then do a search for M-Tech, they make several different knives and you can't go wrong for the money! I'm a Sergeant in the Marine Corps and this knife has been tested through some very tough terrain both in training and in combat and while I looked to my Gerber LMF-2 for situations that called for a heavy duty knife I don't doubt that this knife would have done the job if needed. Stunning Hawkbill Utility knife,bigger than I thought but amazing. I recommend this knife...AA++ Very well made, will last a lifetime.

So i had this knife about a week, took a nap with it clipped to my pocket, woke up with the belt clip hanging by one screw, put it back together with red loctite, still came apart, for some reason, this belt clip doesnt want to stay together, this is my only complaint about the knife, i have since just completely took the belt clip off. Just something you should know before you buy, for 12 bucks still a ok knife, i love the hawkbill.

I have been using this knife on walks to keep invasive blackberry plants from encroaching on pathways and I have also been using it to remove invasive ivy from trees. Removing the ivy involve prying, hacking and slashing and this knife has stayed sharp and the action has stayed tight. This knife is a great value and the quality exceeds expectations. I own many folders, all more expensive than this one, and I am very pleased with this one.
