Buy A Sand County Almanac: And Sketches Here and There: Read Books Reviews - desertcart.com Review: Buy Another Version - A lovely book. I would recommend buying another version, though. This one has nice sketches and an introduction, although I am not sure either of them add to Aldo’s prose. The sketches and introduction were penned by other people and I think Sand County is better off without both. Especially the introduction; I am not sure how or why that was added. Those pages will be used to start a fire when I read this in Alaska. I will say the sketches are very pleasant, it is just a bit odd seeing as they were added later and again, are by someone else. Much prefer them to the introduction. This really is a lovely book I would encourage anyone to read when you are in the right place to appreciate it. Review: An excellent piece of literature - The title of the book is not a good indication of the excellent piece of literature this is. It reflects a simpler time and life, but its message is profound regarding our perception of nature and our impact on even a simple plot of land. The author’s (Aldo Leopold) sentence construction and vocabulary is outstanding. Even the introduction is excellent by Barbara Kingsolver. I have to admit I would not have purchased and read this book had it not been recommended by a professor at Texas A&M University. I recommend it to you.

This is easily the most enlightened and enlightening work I’ve read to gain a comprehensive understanding of ecology and ethical land use.

Easy read.
It is a nice book, but if you are looking for a scientific book, this is not it. It's more poetic. Recommended if you just want to read something.

Why is a Book of Poetry Being Used in a Science Program?
I REALLY don't care much for poetry. I suffered through it in high school but really had zero appreciation for it. Well, I'm just a few days shy of turning 69 years old now, and I'm willing to admit that this is an extremely well-written book. I suspect that my admiration for it stems largely from the fact that it ISN'T a bunch of rhyming poetry. It's simply eloquently assembled words and phrases that impart a great meaning to the pictures that they paint. Is you appreciate creativity. If you appreciate visualization. Then you're going to love this book.

Where ever you live if you are interested in the countryside, this is a must read, inciteful and still very relevant in these troubled times

A great classic that brought to light environmental concerns and the need to live with nature instead of being at war with her. Clearly written and moving reflections on different environments and species. The last chapter is of particular importance. Unfortunate that its message has been ignored for so long by too many.
