I’ve had a Breville Barista Express for a little over a month and decided I wasn’t satisfied with the tamper that came it it. I checked out a lot of resources about whether the tamp pressure really makes a difference (some experts say it doesn’t), but decided that buying one was worth a shot (pun intended).I compared a lot of tampers on Amazon and decided to go with this one based on the price point and reviews. I figured that it wouldn’t hurt to experiment with tamp pressure.I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE TAMP PRESSURE MAKES. My shots have significantly improved and I’m now even more obsessed with the Barista Express.The weight of this tamper is surprisingly heavy for its size. As others have noticed, it doesn’t click, and for me that’s better. Clicking is weird. I performed a very unscientific test where I used the tamper to press down on a scale. It reached 30lbs easily and didn’t go super far beyond that unless i really pressed. However, two of the roasts I use NEED the extra pressure, so I like that I can just press a bit harder and get the extra pressure.The handle twists to adjust the height do the tamper and I found that adjusting it to make it taller adds more pressure (unscientific scale test). I keep it at the closed setting (shorter) and use some muscle to add pressure for the roasts I have that need a tighter tamp.If you’re on the fence about this, hop over to this side and buy it. It’s a small price to pay for an immediately noticeable change in your shots.

Nice, solid, heavy and delivers a good 30# pressure every time. Tested on a scale and it was right on the mark for 30#.

This is a terrific value at easily more than 50-65% cheaper than similar products on well known online coffee sites. It has a great sturdy/solid feel to it. Fits the 54mm Breville machine's well (and there aren't that many choices for that). I particularly like the calibration feature which is accurate according to my scale, and its helped a huge amount in dialing in my shot consistently. Very pleased with this purchase.

Perfect, well made. Feels good in your hand, with a good weight to it, I like that it teaches you the pressure to be pressed, I’ve been over pressing all these years, this is well made and professional quality. I’m very happy and highly recommend this for both beginners or professionals.

The tamper sometimes needs a lot of force to push down completely, other times, much less force. This was using the same coffee, same amount and same grind. It just seems to stick at times. I would not recommend it!
