Highly recommended
I read the book right before meeting him at the mob museum here in Vegas. It was really interesting to read this book, then ask him questions right afterwards. Interesting guy, with quite a past. Consultant on the movie Casino and actually plays himself in the scene where Jerry Lisner is murdered. The “pool scene, in the backyard “. I highly recommend the book, especially if your interested in Vegas mob history in the 70’s.

If you love casino, this guy was in the middle of it
I've seen Cullotta interviewed on docs about the events from the movie Casino or about Tony Spilotro. He seemed as interesting as those subjects and this book proves that.

Good Read
I enjoyed reading this book. While the subject matter is at times hard to relate too, the honestly of the writing does come through.Worth the dollars to purchase.

A Great Read...well done
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Mr, Cullotta's views on his life. He seemed to me to be matter of fact and factually honest, without trying to make himself anything else than what he was.I have read many books regarding the criminal organization and this one ranks up there with the better ones.I hope Mr Cullotta is enjoying life on the straight side......but, I am sure he still looks over his shoulder for that one event.....

Reading this book puts you in the confession booth of Frank Cullotta
Cullotta has to be one of the most prolific criminals in the annals of both Las Vegas and Chicago organized crime. You'll feel like Father Confessor reading this book, where he purges his soul in what has to be the longest string of end-to-end confessions in the history of (dis)organized crime. In this book he joins forces with retired policeman-turned-writer, Dennis Griffin, who dutifully recounts each score and every hit with the cold accuracy of a Seargant Joe Friday writing his police reports. Griffin's style is perfect for this kind of book. There are no high-flown metaphors, "just the facts, ma'am."While I had second thoughts about paying honest dollars to an admitted life-time thief and killer, I didn't mind giving a few bucks to Griffin, and maybe we can keep Cullotta off the streets with a few royalties from his life story. Here a career cop has managed to write a good book with the unusual help of his natural enemy, a career criminal and big-time mobster. As for Cullotta, he has managed to somehow outlive most of his enemies, while coming clean with the G, getting witness protection, reduced sentences and now dubious celebrity. He even re-enacted one of his most infamous hits in Scorcese's "Casino" while he was in the witness protection program. Who says crime doesn't pay? This is one career criminal who seems to have nine lives and then some. He gives the details on each caper in this joint effort that was released simultaneously with the Family Secrets mob trial in Chicago, in which all defendants were convicted on all counts. Cullotta gives a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the dysfunctional family of crime figures during the mob's heyday in Chicago and Vegas. All the usual suspects are in the book, but seen up close and personal from the perspective of one of their own...the only one that got away.

Engrossing
Even if you know your Las Vegas mob-history, this is a good read. An insider view of the world of Tony Spilotro and the people around him. You have to take some of what you read with scepticism and Mr Cullotta's always keen to say that he always felt 'uneasy' around the very people who turned-out to be Informant's - but he still went on jobs with some of them, so you know he's perhaps being a tad economical with the truth about his judgement of those around him. Generally though, I believe the stories in this book to be real and it's a damn good read.

One who walked away
Good book, with what could be termed a great character - Frank Cullotta. It is interesting that tough guys always either end up dead or turning states evidence. What is truly amazing, is that he was able to walk virtually away after a few years in prison for crimes that should have resulted in life time sentences. Vegas was quite the place during the the days of Cullotta and the other goombas of the day.

If you liked the movie Casino
Provides a better understanding of the gangster/government relationships in Vegas during the mobster heyday.Cullotta also sanitizes himself a bit but if you loved Casino this will prove fascinating to you.

Not Bad
This is a decent book, not the best written. Very simple but does give you some insight into Vegas during its mobbed-up Spilotro days.

Spilotro is the main draw
I decided to read this after seeing Cullotta featured in an episode of 'Banged Up Abroad' (which was strange since he was banged up 'at home'!) The book details his early years and his rise through the ranks. It is a familiar tale and there is nothing earth-shattering or particularly exciting about it. The story plods along fairly predictably. The stories about Anthony Spilotro will be the main source of interest for most readers. It is interesting to hear a first hand account of what he was really like. So, I would recommend this book to die-hard fans of the film, 'Casino', but otherwise you may be a little disappointed.
