Works for Me
I have a deep burn in my wrist from my dad's oven - it's an old-fashioned oven and it has a sharp metal lip at the top that overhangs about half an inch. I was baking and when I went to pull out the pan, my wrist touched this top metal lip, and, as is the common reaction, I pulled up and away, which pushed my wrist even further into the hot metal. It was a third degree burn and I was worried it wouldn't ever heal. This was almost a year ago.I tried treating it with ScarZone, a white cream with green tea. It didn't do anything, so I tried a clear Mederma gel that relies on onion extract and aloe. It seems to help a tiny bit, but it was barely noticeable. The wound had in fact already healed, but there was raised scar tissue and lots of redness that wouldn't go away.My next thought was to use an organic acid to eat away the scar tissue, which was somewhat successful. I used an alpha hydroxy acid, glycolic acid, at maximum concentration, 70%, and it hurt quite a bit, but I was able to flatten everything out and let it reheal. The glycolic acid listing is below.(1 oz / 30 ml) GLYCOLIC Acid 70% Skin Chemical Peel - Unbuffered - Alpha Hydroxy (AHA) For Acne, Oily Skin, Wrinkles, Blackheads, Large Pores & More (from Skin Beauty Solutions)However, the red discoloration was still there and the scar tissue still came back a little bit, so I decided I'd have to get steroid injections or something similar at a local skin care center in Maine where I had had laser hair removal done on my face. I started doing some research and found that even medical offices recommend silicone gel and silicone patches. From anecdotal accounts and some limited medical research, I found that silicone patches are the gold standard for scar healing, and are often more effective than professional steroid injections or other cosmetic work, so I found these ScarAway patches.I've been using the ScarAway patches for a couple weeks now and there is already very apparent change. The redness around the edges of the scar has receded quite a bit and the scar has flattened out more (still a little raised) and feels softer. The kit comes with enough patches to last 12 weeks (3 months) in which one patch is supposed to last for one week. The patches are fairly large so I cut them in half because my scar is a little smaller than the size of a quarter coin.I had read some other reviews and the most common complaint was that they didn't stick well enough. I have had an overall good experience with the stickiness, however. The patches are not sticky like a band-aid, they're sticky like a lint roller. That said, I find that mine stays on quite well, especially considering I have it on my wrist. It is easy to peel away and does not cause any pain when peeling it away. The number one reason why it "loses" stickiness is because particles of cloth or hair will get stuck to the underside edges, but this is easily remedied with washing with water. It's pretty easy - just put it under the tap and gently rub the particles off. They come off fairly easy, but you will need to wash the patch at least once a day. My patch was coming off when I slept, so I put an exercise wristband over it and that kept it on at night. I usually wash the patch when I'm in the shower. The sticky side is somewhat like a solid gel, if that makes any sense. I've been replacing my patch about every 3-5 days. Washing it doesn't seem to reduce the stickiness at all. Washing it will make it MORE sticky because it removes any particles that have gotten under the patch edges.I'm hoping the scar will be almost entirely diminished in a couple months. If not, I may treat it again, very superficially, with the glycolic acid and continue with a acid peel / rehealing process.

I LOVE THESE!!!
After I had my thyroid removed, since the scar was in such a visible area, I wanted to use a scar treatment to help the scar go away quicker. I tried several other scar treatments (gels, creams, etc.), but this one was my favorite. The gels/creams that I tried would say that they would dry on the skin a few minutes after application, but in my opinion, the skin always stayed a little "tacky" afterwards. So these silicone sheets were great.First of all, due to the size of my scar, I was able to cut these sheets horizontally and get 2 uses out of one sheet. The adhesive held great, and I wasn't left with a sticky feeling like with the gels/creams. After daily use and washing, the adhesive is going to lose it's ability to adhere well after a few weeks. But I also bought some cloth surgical tape (3M Medipore H Soft Cloth Surgical Tape - 2" wide). So for example, during the day if I was out and about, I would use a newer sheet that adhered well. The color of the sheet is a beige skin tone, so it wasn't very noticeable. But then at night when I was at home or in bed, I would use one of the sheets that had lots it's adhesive quality, and I would put a little strip of the cloth tape over it to hold it down. Now just FYI, if you sweat a lot, then these silicone sheets WILL slide off. They have to be used on clean dry skin. So if sweating is a problem for you, then you'll either need to look at one of the gel/cream options, or you'll need to use these sheets with some surgical tape. These silicone sheets just do not like sweaty skin.Scars don't go away overnight though. I used them daily (pretty much 24/7) for 6 months after my thyroid was removed, and I was very happy with the results. And I've continued to use them for another 6 months (mainly at night). So after a year of use, the scar is in great shape. The redness is gone, and it's mostly flattened out with the skin around it. I'd like to say that the scar has completely disappeared, but I'm not sure scars ever go away completely. But unless I bring it's attention to someone, it's pretty much not noticeable until I point it out to somebody. So these silicone sheets are GREAT in my opinion. They're comfortable, they're not messy, and they work!
