Most of the issues/complaints were true for me...Mostly likely wouldn't buy again, but like it enough to keep it.
Most of the complaints about the lamp appear to be true for me too. Its not really a dark bronze, but more of a dark copper color. Not sure why, but the shade is a dark olive green with the light off, and then is a light brown with the light on. The arm is slightly crooked along with the top section of the assembly, but not enough to return it. You do have to tighten the bulb in very tightly to get the light to go on consistently, and the switch mechanism is a bit cheaply made and feels loose. Also, its true that the packaging the lamp comes in is a real mess, but I just used a vaccum cleaner to get it up and opened the packaging in my garage after reading other reviews on this issue. Otherwise, its a nice looking lamp and it appears to be of a quality that is consistent with a lower cost, but even though crooked is fairly solid. Mostly likely wouldn't buy again, but like it enough to keep it.

VERY PLEASED
I received my lamp last night. The packaging was a little flimsy on the outside, but no damage to the lamp. Lots of packaging on the inside, but I think it would be very easy for the lamp shade to get damaged, no real protection for it. Mine was fine, though. I think the color of the glass is more brown/olive green than amber, but that's ok with me. I like the lamp a lot and I think the price is excellent, it arrived in about 5 days. Fairly easy to put together and looks great in my living room. The lampshade is a medium brown and has a very pretty pleated linen look fabric, which I think gives it a look of quality. I did not want white or a light beige. The light shows through, but not too much, very good light for reading. The descriptions are pretty close to the lamp. The material for the base and middle section is a type of resin that looks like wood. Without a close look or feel, you cannot tell. The two poles are metal. The base is fairly heavy.

Something nice and not too expensive.
We bought 2 of these for use in our dark living room. We wanted something nice, but not something too expensive. These were perfect for the job.Shade: Its made of a nice fabric. Its a darker tan color (darker than pictured, but not overly so) The light it lets through is easy on the eyes to look at, the 2 we got provide enough light for us for most situations.Light switch/light socket: This is the reason I gave it a 4/5. The sockets on both of these units do not work that great. The switch turns fine, and give a satisfying "click". The socket however takes alot of trial and error. I tried 3 of my 3 way bulbs and they all work the same way in both units. You have to turn the bulbs almost to the breaking point to get the 3 way lighting option to work properly, otherwise the light will turn on - off - on - off, instead of off - low - med- high.Pole and stand: The stand is heavy enough to make the lamp sturdy and I have no fear it will fall over. The poles tighten together securely and make a solid stable connection from top to bottom. The only "weak point" if any would be the swing arm, it looks straight when together, but when the arm is swung out, it does appear a little crooked, but not overly so. If your sitting there staring at obsessing about, you might have a problem...Glass: Its true, its not clear, its a light amber, but it matches the rest of the lamp perfectly.Packaging: Well, it arrived safe, and I guess that is what packaging do... That said, the packaging material makes a COMPLETE MESS! Upon opening the package, the Styrofoam instantly starts its disintegration, and while you wrestle the parts out, it only gets worse. When you assemble this lamp, do it in a garage or basement, because things get messy.

Nice lamp with some pitfalls
This is a nice heavy floor lamp. It works fine and is very attractive. Some cons are that this is made of very inexpensive soft metal so it scars up with the slightest bump and the surface coating comes off very easy. Best used in a low usage area. The village idiot pack this lamp, it took longer to unpack it that it did too assemble it. The least expensive packing foam blocks are used, they fall apart with the slightest of pressure. All the pieces are wrapped in plastic bags and then packing taped is used to wrapped everything together tapping the product and the foam blocks together make a huge mess when unpacking. I suggest that this is done outside.

Came Crooked, Styrofoam Everywhere, Not bright at its brightest setting
The product arrived totally crooked. This required very little assembly however the piece with the glass is crooked which makes the whole thing look terrible. Not only that, but the package it arrived in was made with some sort of cheap styrofoam which exploded all over my room turning into a snowstorm. The packaging seem durable enough to keep the piece safe but the whole thing is crooked and unfortunately looks terrible. This case may be the only one, if it was straight I would say it is a good looking piece, however it is very dim even at its brightest setting. I have it set up with another floor lamp to make a 10x10 room look decently dim...... I wouldn't recommend it if you need some serious light.

Swing Arm was not level with the floor
Upon opening the item we noticed there was a scratch on the base plate. We went ahead and assembledthe lamp and we noticed that the swing arm was not level with the floor. There was not an adjustment that wecould make to correct that problem. One other thing was the lamp shade was too dark for the room that we were going to use the lamp. We asked for a return on the item.

Great lamp, love it so far!
I really like this lamp and I didn't have the problem of the glass being amber instead of clear. I bought the lamp not caring if it was amber or clear glass, though. It was clear, and it really is a sharp looking lamp and works great as a reading lamp. It seems very sturdily built. I hope it lasts the 14 years my last lamp like this lasted.. these lamps screw in at the base and it is a common breaking point after 10+ years.. if you want a lifetime lamp you'll have to spend a lot more money at one go and get a lamp that is pre-assembled. :)
