Star Wars: A New Hope The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy

Captures the true magic of Star Wars for readers of all ages!
The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy is not merely a retelling of Star Wars: A New Hope, but genuinely adds to the cinematic experience. From the mythical tone of the prologue and epilogues, to the narrative written from the tight third-person perspective of the "Big Three" of Leia, Han, and Luke, Alexandra Bracken captures the feel and tone of the original Star Wars film. Even if -- or perhaps especially if -- you've seen the film dozens of times, the book harnesses the old joy and magic of seeing the movie for the first time. For those who've never seen the film before.... what are you doing on this Amazon page, go watch Star Wars: A New Hope! The book is marketed for kids, specifically kids of the current generation who might not have grown up on the Original Star Wars Trilogy. This book is ideal for those kids who may have still seen the original films, but perhaps associate the movies with their parents' generation. The language is modern -- allowing kids to relate to Leia, Han, or Luke and their heroic journeys -- while also preserving the timelessness inherent to Star Wars. But if you're a teenager or an adult -- or buying for one -- this book has a lot for you too, especially in the way it fleshes out the background of the film. The book is great for both boys and girls: Leia, Han, and Luke get equal page time amongst each other. Leia in particular seemed to get the least attention in the film, and she consequently gets a lot of development in this book. Bracken has a deft touch with Leia, and uses her political background and connection with the Rebellion to great effect. But I absolutely have to add that boys can get a lot of enjoyment out of Leia's chapters and girls can get a lot out of Luke and Han's chapters, too! Everyone has their particular heroes. If you're a kid -- or an adult remembers being a kid who loved Star Wars -- you can't miss this book. If you're trying to introduce Star Wars to youngsters, I can't think of a better place to start than this novel! Bottom line: young or old, male or female -- if you like Star Wars, you'll like this book! I give this book my highest recommendation.

The Same Much Loved Saga, but with a few tweaks and additions to add to the Mythology – Worth the Read!
I have been a Star Wars nut since I was a kid and first saw a New Hope. There are not enough pages, words or time for me to sit here and describe how much I love it, the fun I have had with it over the years, and now with my kids as well.So when this new version came out, I thought I would have a look. I have a 12yr old Daughter who is loving all things Star Wars as well, and we read this together to see what it was like.Of course, I had some scepticism at first, I mean after all, someone had re-written Star Wars – the last time that happened, Greedo shot first and we all know how that turned out!!!But then you read this, and when you get to the end, Alexandra Bracken has left a note for us to read. And she is almost as big a nut as I am (if not more?).And when you read this, and after reading her story at the end, you realise that you are actually in safe hands. She hasn’t tried to mangle the story, she has taken the story, and added some really great bits to it, giving us background and filler to wrap around the main story. She has tweaked the main story a little bit, but there is very little in the way of actual major storyline changes. We all know the story, we all love the story, Bracken has taken this long loved fable, and added some extra bits to expand on it, some from the mythology that surround it, some from the Radio plays, but some from her own mind that connects all of this together. The result? This is an amazingly fun, well written, and excellent version of A New Hope, created by someone who loves the story as much as all the rest of us.I highly recommend this for anyone who is a fan of Star Wars, regardless of age (obviously they need to be old enough to understand Star Wars), as they will get a kick out of this re-imagined story.

A 40 year old beloved story brought to new life!
This is a marvelous retelling of the New Hope story as told by the "Princess", the "Scoundrel", and the "Farm Boy". Each of the three characters narrates a portion of the story. The voice actors/narrators do an excellent job. This may have been written for "Young Adult" readers but it's a real treat for any Star Wars fan. I had never heard of Alexandra Bracken - the author - before, but I now have reason to believe she's not only a good writer but a dedicated Star Wars fan who treats the story with the kind of respect and wonder that any fan could identify with. Even the Epilogue is a treat and something that many, many Star Wars fans will be able to relate to with ease.I'll probably buy the audio versions of the other two re-tellings in the series (reflecting the original trilogy) because of how much enjoyment I got out of this one.

average, no medal for saving the alliance, but not bad enough to feed to a rancor
The audiobook is by no means a poor piece of work, but most likely aimed at kids, than adults. I brings to mind the audio tapes, with booklets to go along with them that came along with the movies in the eighties. It's all fairly banal, but still entertaining enough for me listen to when I do house chores. So as something to have muttering in the background as you work or entertain kids that are fans of starwars, this would fit the bill.

Ottimo servizio clienti, libro carino
