Size:Thrее Расk This full-featured electric kettle from Bonavita heats water to precisely the temperature you need, whether you're preparing pour-over coffee or the perfect cup of tea. Thoughtful features like 60-minute heat-and-hold and real-time temperature display make this the ideal kettle for creating all kinds of hot beverages. The kettle is stainless steel and there is one piece of food grade silicone inside the kettle to seal the temperature probe.

Lasted 5 years
Here’s a brief summary of my video review of the Bonavita 1.0 L Digital Variable Temperature Gooseneck Kettle. I purchased this November 11, 2012, and was forced to retire it on December 24, 2017. Good features about this kettle include mostly stainless construction, beepless design, commercial rating, and proven 5-year durability. Bad features include some (totally unnecessary) plastic inside the water-heating compartment.

Great, until it rusted out!
I really loved this kettle and it's variable temperature setting--it was perfect for brewing individual cups of tea and Aeropress coffee. Unfortunately, about nine months into owning this kettle rust rings began to appear around the welding of the spout to the kettle and the plastic base around the bottom of the kettle. As time has passed, this has gotten worse. Now, the kettle consistently sits in a small puddle of water that appears to be leaking from the seal between the plastic base and metal upper of the kettle. I would love for this company to reach out to me about an improved replacement, but at this point, I would not recommend this product. Great design, great function, really poor materials.

If you're looking for a long lasting gooseneck kettle look elsewhere.
Purchased this product in 2013 used it lightly in the winters, cleaned it regularly and stored it during the warmer months. It was a joy to use when it was working. The kettle stopped boiling water last week. It displays the temperature but will no longer heat the water in it. In total I got 2 years of actual use out of this unit.Reached out to Bonavita customer service to inquire about purchasing a replacement base and was told they do not sell the base separately. For the cost of this unit, I thought it would last longer. Appliances nowadays are built to be disposable, I expected more from Bonavita, paid more for a premium product and now I have another disposable appliance.Pros: The ability to hold the water at a certain temperature was great for pour over coffee. Heated water really fast.Cons: Cost. Durability. The warranty is 1 year, if the base fails after the warranty period you'll be stuck with an electric kettle that can't heat the water and no replacement base to purchase. If you don't mind replacing this unit every few years it is a nice kettle for pour over coffee. It might be the only one on the market where you can specify a target temperature and hold it there. If you need that feature you don't have many options. I can't justify the price to repurchase this item and hope it last longer than the last one.

while nice for the first few months
This kettle, while nice for the first few months, develops rust and leaks, creating a mess all over one's kitchen counters. The kettle is not stainless steel, and the kettle will form rust spots wherever water contacts the kettle. My particular kettle, in addition to rust spots inside of the kettle, also developed rust and a leak at the base of the gooseneck on the bottom where the gooseneck meets the kettle. It leaks EVERYWHERE, and when tilting the kettle it will leak profusely - which is a great feature considering that it is leaking near boiling hot water on you.I submitted a warranty claim and it was denied despite the clear manufacturing default. I would recommend fully to save your money ($75 or $99) and spend it on a company that doesn't willfully deceive their customers.

Two defective units, do not purchase this kettle.
This is an extremely defective product, I'm on unit #2 and I'm returning it not to be replaced. Each unit threw a "Hi Err**" error when heating water. The error always happened between 140-160 degrees. I would restart the unit and it would sometimes restart and get the water to the correct temperature, but 50% of the time it would error again over 200 degrees.I contacted Bonavita support and they had this to say."Thank you for your email and purchase of a Bonavita kettle. This error message signifies that the kettle reached the boiling point before reaching the set temperature. This is common in higher altitudes. If you are not at a high altitude, please return to the place of purchase or complete the warranty claim form at the link below to receive a replacement."I live at 850 feet, not exactly high elevation. With two defective unit this is not reasonable behavior for a $90+ product. My previous kettle, a $20 generic model from Target, never gave me any issue. This is just very poor quality control and design with Bonavita.**Please not the picture doesn't show the full error. It flashed quickly and the camera captured HErr. The full error is "Hi" on one screen the flashes to "err" and the back and forth.

Too bad it's only a 1 year warranty
Worked well for 2 years, only light, daily use, but without dropping or any incident, the spout just collapsed off! Too bad it's only a 1 year warranty.

DO NOT BUY THIS KETTLE
I purchased this kettle with high hopes for improving my pour-overs. It does pour very well, and I took meticulous care of it. I always immediately dried it after use, kept it clean, and only used it a couple of times a week. After about a year and a half, it refused to turn on. I tried different outlets - nothing. I reached out to Bonavita to ask for help because I have lovingly cared for this kettle and only had it for about 1.5 years, and there is no reason whatsoever that it should have quit working this quickly. I was told that it was not under warranty (even though the paperwork listed it as having a 2 year warranty) and they would not do anything to fix it or replace it or help in any way. I cannot believe that the customer service is SO bad for an item that I invested a good bit of money in. I will absolutely NEVER buy another item from this company. It stopped working very quickly and the company refused to help at all. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! There are many better options out there!

Akin to buying last year’s flagship model – in a good way.
One year into trading my coffee addiction to one for tea, it was time to invest in the proper tools of the trade. After falling into my usual Google rabbit hole, I landed on the Bonavita.1. Heating time: not as speedy as others, but that’s only a concern whilst you’re obsessively angst-ing over reviews - it’s plenty fast IRL.2. The UI is a tad clunky, but if you’re using the same settings daily, it’s fine.3. People made issue with having to press the ‘hold’ button to maintain temp whenever the kettle’s removed from the base. Whatever - hardly a herculean task.4. Haven’t experienced the ‘HI ERR’ glitch (yet).Otherwise, the Bonavita met my purchasing criteria: accurate temp control, BPA-free, small footprint, and a capacity that’s less than what’s required for an Italian wedding.I would highly recommend this unit as it’s increased my QOL by at least 2.75%. And, while it lacks some of the glossier features of newer products, I’m pretty sure people have managed to enjoy tea throughout antiquity without using an app.

Questionable Quality
I was very excited to have received this shipping today because this item has great review.I must say I am very disappointed when I opened it. No only the kettle was very light weighted to a point that I am concern about durability. Most importantly I found a manufacturer defect. The opening of the gooseneck as shown on the picture has a irregular discolouration which almost looks like rust/raw metal.I've never return anything on Amazon and this will be my first item.I didn't expect the kind of quality with this price tag. Also the seller doesn't seems to be enthusiastic about learning customer feedback. The product isn't open for seller feedback on the most recent order.

Great features but not durable.
The temperature control/display is particularly useful for brewing a green tea as the wrong temperature would ruin the flavor, the scent and the color. The goose neck is great for brewing drip coffee. It doesn't not boil water as quickly as many of the basic inexpensive kettles in the market. The temperature display usually does not get beyond 99 (instead of 100). I've only had this for 6-7 months but the temperature sensor is beginning to go (sometimes flickering between 70+ to 90+ when the rolling steam indicates the water has reached a full boil). At this price, I expected it to last at least 1 year or 2.

Great until you keep it for at least 2 months
I absolutely loved this kettle and heard good things, but it's only been 2 months since I purchased it that it has already developed a light rust ring on the lid portion. I'm not happy to see this, and I'm even more worried to see what will come in the future for this kettle. I wish I read more into the reviews here on Amazon because it seems that it is a common issue, and even worse off that the company is horrible with service. Stay away from this product and company at all costs.

Damaged on Arrival, but hopeful.
*Update 03/10/2015*I contacted the manufacturer, and was offered a replacement 1.0, or a replacement 1.7L kettle. They couldn't guarantee that another 1.0L wouldn't have the same problem (they stated that they are working on finding out why some of these kettles have this problem). The new kettle arrived yesterday, and I have run it through 6 cycles, without a single problem. I really did like the 1.0L kettle, and it was more suited to the single cups of coffee that I usually brew (I use a pourover cone). If it weren't for this odd problem, I would have given the kettle 5 stars. Due to the quality issues, I can only give it 3 at the moment.*Update 03/03/2015*Replacement kettle arrived. No visible damage to the kettle. Alas, same problem with the "Hi Err" appearing every time the kettle gets to around 80C.Now I'm trying to decide if I should: a) Just return the kettle for a refund, b) ask for yet another return, or c) try to submit a warranty claim with the manufacturer... At this moment in time, I'm leaning toward Option A...*Update 02/26/2015*While waiting for my replacement (see below), I've decided to test out this kettle, to see how it performs. Every time I use it, it approaches 80-85C and then gives me a "Hi Err". Turning the kettle off and back on again allows it to continue to heat to my set 93F, but this is really annoying. Searching the Internet has revealed that this is a common problem with this product. I hope that the replacement does not exhibit the same problem.*** Original Review ***I just received this item an hour ago. After filling it once, and draining it, I noticed dark marks inside. Upon detailed inspection, I discovered the inside of the kettle has some deep scratches which appear to be corroding, as seen here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/h60oxtv28s0g70r/2015-02-24%2013.40.02.jpg?dl=0Given the depth of the scratches, I have requested a replacementSo far, I am pleased with the general appearance, and functionality. I purchased this to brew freshly roasted and ground coffee, based on a suggestion from a local roaster, who uses the plain version of this kettle regularly. When the replacement arrives, I will update this review with more details.

Very good gooseneck kettle for pour overs
Pros:Good valueReasonably accurate temperature controlCons:Not the best looking kettleLid is friction fit and can be difficult to open at times.Summary:This is an often recommended gooseneck kettle. The pouring control is pretty good. Reasonably accurate temperature control when I tested it with an infrared thermometer. The design is not as nice as some of the more expensive kettles for obvious reasons. The one complaint I have is the lid is kind of hard to open as it is friction fit. You have to grasp the knob and wiggle it carefully off otherwise you might burn your hand on the kettle. A hinge mechanism would have been nice.

Amazing programmable kettle, and it’s cute too!
I did a little bit of research looking into programmable kettles, and decided on this oneIt’s the perfect size for my condo and the temperatures that you want are very easy to set.I also like the long spout which is perfect for slowly pouring out the water into a French press. All in all I am very satisfied

Broken after 2 years
Bought this kettle 2 years ago. The spout welding broke. No replacement parts available from Bonavista. Impossible to get it repaired. Another « Made in China » product, and an expensive one, that does not last. Very bad for the environment. DO NOT BUY.J’ai acheté cette bouilloire il y a 2 ans. La soudure qui attache le bec à la bouilloire s’est brisée et le bec s’est détaché. Un autre produit fabriqué en Chine qui n’est pas durable. Très dommageable pour l’environnement. Ne pas acheter.

No more boiling water on the stove like a cave man
I was hesitant to spend 80 dollars on a kettle - I mean I have a 10 dollar one that sits on the stove and it boils water just fine.. But I really wanted to be able to boil to exact temperatures to further control my coffee brewing method, as well as brew teas using the correct temps without having to fiddle with measuring water temps, waiting for water to cool down etc..I've only had this for about 10 days as of this review, but I've used it at least once per day, usually twice.. The hold temp feature along with the temp select is very useful. I can set the temp to 200f for example and keep it there while I prep everything else and it's ready to go at the perfect temperature as soon as I need it - no more fiddling with the stove and thermometer.

LOVED it, but now it's broken...
I really like this kettle. I love gooseneck kettles, they are so easy to pour because they feel light as a result of where the spout is. I bought mine Dec 2015 and would sing its praises to everyone. However, I am torn now, because as of one week ago, four years later, the temperature control has gone wonky. It can no longer tell what the temp is, and the display shows a different temperature every two seconds. This results in a never ending boil, or it doesn't try to boil at all.I'm unsure if it's unreasonable for me to be upset that four years later it is broken. But I think I feel like it shouldn't have broken this quickly. This is why the 3 stars but, honestly, when it worked, I adored it.

Mostly great but a major recurring malfunction glitch
Overall love it, great design, size and function. Although have an issue with it erroring out at around 60-70 degrees celsius. It would just spit out "HI ERR" and I would have to turn it off and on again to reach 93-95 for coffee brewing. So a bit glitchy but I hear that this model is like that so I'm not sure getting a replacement will help any. I heard misnomers about altitude and sea level but I live in a very flat Toronto so that's not the issue. I do not live on a mountain lol. I do live in a condo but only on the 5th floor so it really shouldn't have any effect on it. Other than that though I am happy so far.

Perfect for Pourover
I use this kettle to make my coffee in the morning. I don't fill it all the way up (only need enough for a 350 ml coffee+rinse filter) and it's very fast. I fill it up, turn it on, and by the time I'm done prepping the rest it's done. Having the hold is a nice feature. I've tried making coffee at a few different temperatures and have to admit, I haven't really noticed a difference. Looks nice and the goose neck makes pour over a lot easier than my last kettle

Perfect for pour over coffee making
With temperature controls plus the ability to keep the water at a certain temperature, this is perfect for making drip coffee. We honestly think our tea and coffee taste so much better when the water is at the appropriate temperature. The pouring spout is great and the overall design is esthetically very pleasing.

I love this elegant, little kettle
The price is a little steep, but being able to set (and hold!) the temperature of my water while I fiddle with my Aeropress or tea is awesome. I've had it for a few days and I am surprised by how quickly it brings the 1L (maximum fill) of cold, filtered tap water to a boil. In fact, it is usually faster than I can get myself organized to do a press on my Aeropress!Highly recommended if you want to take your home-brew coffee to the next level.
