Swara Yoga
As with all Bihar books this is well writte, informative and worth having. It's espcially good because it fuses science and yoga so well. If you're into pranayama it's worth a read. I haven't finised it yet, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the book.

good book for understanding the breath
I brought this book after buying the authors other book "Hatha Yoga Pradipika", which incidentally was absolutely amazing. The author's second book, for which this review is written, is very good having lots of good practical concepts expressed clearly and in a manner which is easy to digest. The relationship between the mostly unconscious processes of breathing and the mind/brain is brought to light with modern scientific theory and examples, making it less esoteric like so many other titles out there about the art of breathing with awareness. I would recommend this title for people who are able to sit for at least one hour whilst witnessing the breath. I say this because it takes some degree of proficiency in a fixed seated asana to start to become aware of the ever increasing subtly of the breath and how it effects the functioning of the brain/mind. If this is not a prerequisite, then one will only be able to experience this book at the level of theory and not put it to practical use. The author states that the breath can take you to the ultimate state beyond mind, or enlightenment. While this may be disputed, witnessing and becoming aware of the subtitles of the breathing process can awaken oneself to the fact that all is energy/prana and that this force is the support for all we see. Highly recommend to those who have at least some familiarity with the terminology of yoga and its practices.

Interesting and informative
This is a very informative book, and worthwhile the read if you are interested in either Yoga or pranayama. The explanations are well written and not difficult to understand, with practical exercises as well. A must read for any Yogi.

this is a really wonderful book about the more subtle aspect of yoga: moving prana with the breath. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in the real message of yoga

valuable knowledge
This is a good introduction to a little known branch of yoga but it has some drawbacks. For instance it doesn't explain how the swara are related to the branches of the autonomic nervous system and how, therefore, unilateral forced nostril breathing can be used for conscious manipulation of mood and energy levels ( a minimum of ten minutes is usually necessary). Similarly, it is not explained how to change the swara with the posture known as dradhasana, or that the swara can be switched simply by lying on the side opposite to the side you wish to be dominant. However, an imaginative and adventurous reader can devise their own experiments once they have the basic idea and, as I have, add a valuable practice to their repertoire of yogic practices.
