The water just flowed right through this without slowing it down. For anyone who makes coffee using a Chemex and paper filters, you know the water should flow slowly so that the coffee has time to steep/brew. With this filter the water ran immediately through the grounds, and even took some of the grounds with it.UPDATE: I read reviews of other filters of this type and others have said that it's necessary to grind the coffee very fine, and pour only into the center of the filter (not hitting the sides). I ground my coffee finer and tried again. It's better, but the water still moves through more quickly than it should, and pulls sediment with it. The coffee comes out ok. Now the question is whether the water needed to rinse this out is less wasteful than throwing away coffee filters.

The money saved in not buying paper filters for your Chemex will not make up for the terrible coffee you will endure using this cone. Good idea but didn't work!! It does leave sludge in your coffee but it also brews weak because water just dumps through it. If you like coffee enough to buy a Chemex, continue getting the filters. Complete waste of money.

Service was more than prompt and the filter works well. It's easy to clean also.
