Nice format
I love this format. So easy to understand.

Book arrived in great condition, too bad it's a terrible book.
Maybe it's because my instructor is starting halfway through the book and working backwards, but this text is terrible. It's formatting is unclear, the explanations and demonstrations are poor at best, and I've had to go back to my other textbook, Calculus Early Transcendentals by Briggs, Cochran, and Gillette to actually learn the material. Even the instructor admits that it's a terrible textbook, points out errors all over the place, and actually pulls out other textbooks when he needs to make sure he's doing formulas correctly. Worst part about the class is that the book comes with these digital "VU Graphs" that the instructor uses in place of his own PowerPoint, and they're just slides of the textbook. 10/10 would not recommend this book--but if you have to buy it, you have my condolences.

Great book, awful packaging!
The book content is as great as expected, but it came severely damaged.

Bad formatting
Absolutely horrible! The formatting in this book is a nightmare to follow.

Many advanced subjects are covered
I decided to buy this book as I have the Engineering Mathematics book by the same author and found that very useful for reminding me of things I sometimes forget. This book is in the same format.I feel that for people who are unfamiliar with the subjects, it does jump in and perhaps could do with a more detailed introduction as it seems to be written for people who already know the subject matter. It does cover many interesting topics, such as the wave equation, heat equation, curvilinear coordinates, and Laplace transforms.I'd say this book is at least a good reminder if you're already studying but I'm not sure if the explanations are clear to a reader who is new to a subject for example, the section on the Fourier series was straightforward to me as I've analysed waveforms for their constituent harmonics before in a different way to what was succinctly expressed in the book but I think the meaning behind the Fourier series may be a little obfuscated within the equations for a newcomer.Overall, I'd say it's a great reference for my ailing memory and marvellously detailed work, although it's perhaps a challenging read for some.

Handy book to study the principles of Engineering Mathematics.
I had considered returning to study Mathematics at the Open University but the fees of over £7000 were not affordable for me in my current situation. Buying this book second hand as a ex-library book I can study to my hearts content and save myself the University fees.A wise choice I believe.

Idea for an independent learner
The book is excellent book for an independent learner. It is organised in frames which should be worked through. Stroud always gives the worked solutions. Both this book and first ideal for engineering courses at University. Only downside is that I would prefer if there was a Kindle version.

The best self-study for an introduction to the subject
This book is particularly valuable for the great number of worked examples, with no steps omitted. The text limits itself to the basics, and then moves on to what is perhaps slightly mechanical drilling of those basics if the form of worked examples, but this approach is actually great for gaining confidence. There's much satisfaction to be gained from working them out oneself.A good foundation for moving on to other books for deeper insight and intuition behind the concepts. For example, Boas, Riley and Hobson

Soundly helpful approach
It is a good and helpful textbook that facilitates learning. The worked examples are fantastic. However, the authors fail in drawing the bigegr picture. The reader will learn to master the methods but not be able to put them in context. I thus recommend the Open Stax Calculus textbooks by Edwin Herman and Gilbert Strang, although they cover less. However, a reader will obtain equally comprehensive command of the methods and succeed in understanding the applicability.
