Camera for an Old Timer
Added 09-18-2020. The cameras allows the user to build a user unique menu under "My Menu" and assign a function key to launch the menu. So far I have added film emulsion, shutter delay timer, photometry and a few odds and ends to my menu. I recommend this camera without hesitation. I shoot stills. Read other reviews for video. I have photographed using film for years. The main reason I bought this camera is because I can choose the film effect then shoot the scene. With other cameras, I had to do all that work in post. It is more affordable than other brands. The body is made (or assembled) in China and the lens is made (or assembled) in the Philippines. I use B&W and classic chrome film effect the most. The CC (with little tweak) closely resembles the Kodachrome emulsion of the old days. There are a few other film emulations that one can select in the camera menu. No Moire fringing noticed so far. Maybe RGB pixel orientation geometry makes the fringes fall below the dynamic range of the picture. Power up is less than half a second. The battery charger in the kit is for in-camera charging. The charger is a 5V/3A plug in wall adapter with USB C connector. The cord is USB C to USB C. The camera can also charge from a laptop USB adapter with a type A to type C cable. Fuji also makes a cradle charger for charging 2 batteries simultaneously. Charge level display increments in 5% steps. The cradle charger uses USB C for power. The X-T4 battery is 7.2V which is different from the 9V model 126 used in a lot of other Fuji cameras. One charge and 300 shots and haven't had the need to recharge. The sensor is excellent at high and low light conditions. There is a whopping +- 6.5 stop camera shake compensation without shutter speed increase. Good for closeup, low light and street photography. It has mechanical and electronic shutters. Mechanical to electronic crossover speed is factory set. Maybe future firmware releases will allow user setting. The performance on darker scenes is excellent. I recently bought a 23mm/1.4 for indoor photography. I have set the camera to use maximum ASA 12800 for dark scenes. Surprisingly low noise at high ASA. HDR over-under exposure is decided by the camera. Bracketing can be set to +-100% to +-400%. Outdoor HDR shots of bright scenes show good balance between shadow/highlight. So far, the need for a flash is not there. All buttons on the camera can be programmed differently from factory defaults. There are 2 software that Fuji recommends. They downloaded and installed for free with purchase of this camera. There are a few downloads on Fuji website also. One download will allow you to covert the raw image stored in the camera to JPG using the processor in the camera. No need to upgrade laptop to high capacity drives or faster processors. It's possible to add light and color bias to shots. Other special effects will have to be done in post. The wireless setting will allow bluetooth as well as network connection. Although I know how to setup and use the features, but have never developed the habit for it. Read other reviews for wifi. Shutter, aperture and ASA preferred shooting is simple. Choose one, or any two, and the camera will adjust the other(s). If you have a lens with aperture ring, aperture priority is simply rotating the ring. Shutter and ASA dials are on the camera. I have noticed that while I am working to compose the shot, the aperture is opening and closing continuously ready for preview or taking the shot. I use the over-under exposure dial often. When rotated to "C" position the OU can be adjusted to +-5 stops. Everything seems to be well thought out with this camera. The learning curve is very fast if you have film photography background and know how to use manual camera overrides. I will add to this review as time goes on.

Probably the best APS C Camera on the market
My wife and I are long time Fujifilm camera users, having started with the X T1 and X100 (we now have the X100V). As each new model of the X Tx series as been released we have generally upgraded and the X T4 is the current best they have produced. My wife upgraded from the X T2 and I upgraded from the X T3 and we have a good range of lenses (from our 23mm prime to the 100 to 400mm Zoom). We mainly shoot still photographs, so the video features are not the main reason we use this camera but it is very competent. Pros: 1. IBIS makes using my 16 to 55 f/2.8 (the sharpest lens in my collection but without image stabilization) safer and ensures sharper results. Testing showed I get about 5 stops of stabilization. I can shoot at substantially slower shutter speeds. 2. Improved auto focus performance. Not as good as my Canon R5, but more than good enough for the majority of uses I have, even some fairly challenging wild life shots. 3. Beautifully made and is a camera that makes you want to take pictures. 4. USB C socket in camera charging. 5. Longer battery life with the new NP-W235 battery. I easily get a days shooting with the new battery, whereas the older battery would often need to be changed for a fully charged one 2/3 of the way through the day. 6. Superb out of camera JPGs and video. 7. New 'floppy' screen is more flexible for those awkward shots and video. 8. Feels more responsive. Cons: 1. Slightly changed body size and shape, so none of the original cases fit the camera. 2. That new battery means all your older batteries are no longer usable, so you have to buy new spare batteries (luckily my X100V uses the older battery).. 3. External charger not included in the package. 4. Auto focus and tracking trickier to setup than it should be. 5. Headphone socket requires a dongle (provided). 6. Expensive. You can now buy a full frame camera for less than the cost of this camera, however the lenses for this camera are lighter, smaller and cheaper than the equivalent full frame lenses. Think of the total cost of the system rather than just the cost of the body. Summary: If you have the X T2 or earlier, this is a no brainer upgrade. If you have the X T3 (which is still available) you need to think more carefully about whether the improvements are worth the inconvenience of buying new batteries and a new battery charger. A lot of Fujifilm lenses have OIS, so the IBIS is a nice luxury but I love the way it improves my shots for that 16 to 55 f/2.8. Note also that the sensor is the same sensor that is in X T3 (it is an upgrade from the X T2 which has the 24.3 MP sensor). If you are looking to get into serious photography, the quality and output from this camera is amazing. APS C cameras ultimately have built in disadvantages with respect to full frame cameras (noise due to lower light gathering capability etc.) but this camera produces amazing pictures with very low noise for a smaller sensor. Note that lenses for APS C camera are smaller and lighter than their equivalent full frame lenses, so they are very good for wildlife. The 100 to 400 mm lens I noted above is the equivalent of a 150 mm to 600 mm lens in the full frame world, which pulls in some great shots. Those lighter lenses mean you are also more likely to have them with you than their larger (and more expensive) full frame counterparts. Overall this a beautiful camera that is a pleasure to use. This is one of those cameras that gets out of the way when you want to take pictures.

The almost perfect hybrid camera
Probably the closest thing to the perfect hybrid camera. The X-T4 is the best camera for those who like me take photography and videography seriously. It is an amazing little package, the video is amazing, the photos are amazing as well, the system includes all the lenses you need. The Stills/Movie dial is genius, it cleans up the menus and makes everything much easier to setup quickly. The ergonomics are improved from the X-T3, the battery life is doubled, the new shutter is quieter and rated for 300,000 actuations. The IBIS is fantastic as well. To be honest, the autofocus is great and works very well, but it's not near Sony or Canon, but Fuji is always working on it and it will keep improving it. I'd give it a solid distant third place in performance behind Canon as of right now. If you're going to use this camera mainly for video, only a few lenses work as expected and pull focus smoothly, accurately and with minimum focus breathing according to Fuji, the 18-55 F2.8-4, (which is my main video lens) the 50-140 F2.8 and 10-24 F4.0. So keep that in mind when choosing lenses. If you're using this camera for stills, this camera is the best APS-C camera on the market and it gives some more expensive full-frame cameras a run for their money. The way the lenses render color, sharpness and contrast is fantastic. Any XF lens, even the "kit" lens is a fantastic piece of kit, so select your lenses freely because all of them are fantastic.

I've been incredibly happy with the X-T4. I've had this since 2020 and it's been super reliable. Image quality is superb out of this an I love the fujifilm colors. This has a plethora of physical dials that allows you adjust your exposure triangle with ease. The grip on this isn't the best, so you'll likely want to purchase a separate grip to help make this a bit more ergonomic. That said, where this loses out a bit in ergonomics it more than makes up for in looks. I absolutely adore the classic aesthetics on this camera. Coming from an Olympus EM 5 Mark II, this is a great option for a retro looking camera with modern features. The IBIS is really nice to have on this, and makes handheld photos in poor lighting conditions and video much more manageable. With this camera you get access to Fujifilm's wide array of excellent first party X mount lenses, and now amazingly enough, great third party X mount lenses from Viltrox. The main area for me that this is lacking a bit is the subject detect AF. Standard AF modes work great, but the subject detect AF leaves a bit to be desired when comparing this to other cameras on the market. Not a deal breaker, but something to keep in mind if you do a lot of sports or animal photography. Overall a solid option even in 2024 if you can find this for a good price, 100% would recommend
