History of Japanese Electric Guitars

Unexpected Greatness....
I was definitely not prepared for what I was getting with this book! I'm used to guitar books with one glossy, high res pic of a single guitar per page and a brief couple of paragraphs. This book has wonderful pictures taken from advertising, shots for the book as well as historical pictures from the guitar firms themselves. The writing is outstanding and this book is a fantastic chronicle for someone that had no idea Japan had played such an integral part of the music revolution. I look at these guitars through very different eyes now and I'm guessing this will create a collectors market (if it doesn't already exist) for these beautiful instruments.I highly recommend this book, it cannot be perused or read in a few hours. The pictures alone gobble up a lot of time. The histories and back stories will drive you to Google to look for more info as well.My only wish is for a second book! Maybe something in collaboration with Deke Dickerson: Frank could call it "Teisco in the Attic". I'm sure that between the production in Japan and the demand in the US and around the world, there are many stories yet to be told about these wonderful guitars. This book and the wonderful guitars it contains reminds me of a quote from the movie Ratatouille: "Not everyone can become a great artist; but a great artist *can* come from *anywhere*. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more." It is difficult to imagine more unpretententious origins than the guitars, men and women contained in this book yet it is likely they could be some of the most innovative instruments ever produced and most assuredly this book has left me hungry for more.

A huge amount of knowledandge and effort went into producing this outstanding book!
I couldn't be happier with the quality of the printing and the huge amount of information contained in this book on Japanese Guitars from the 1960's. I'd like to shake the hand of the author as he has put a huge amount of time and effort to produce a book of this quality and helpfulness.

What's the buzz?
It may not be a definitive history of Japanese Electric Guitars, but it is the only history of Japanese Electric Guitars written in English. Meyers worked very hard to accumulate facts for the book, but does it satiate the collector of this overlooked niche of culture collision in interpretation of design and execution of craftwork to an unknown market of western teenage consumers? Well, yeah. I find myself picking the book up, rereading passages, and staring at the pictures. Aside from the introduction of Japanese cars into the American market, electric guitars are a manifestation of the difference between two cultures that had no idea of what the other was up to, and worked very hard to find out.

great documentation, Fab photos
Frank Meyers has hit a Grand Slam with "History of Japanese Electric Guitars".Well written, great documentation, Fab photos, & probably the best informative guideavailable, on Japanese made guitars from the Sixties! In depth info on the factories, guitar makes, brands, vintage advertisements, & the people behind them. The sectionon the vintage pickups alone, are worth the price of the book. Let's hope Frank followsup with another gem like this, maybe featuring more of the rare styles of the "BrandedGuitars", with even more photos! Every Vintage Guitar player or collector should havethis book in thier reference library.

This is a great book! A very concise history of Japanese guitar production during the sixties boom in rock music. The research and text is fascinating, and the photographs of some of the most bizarre and beautiful guitars ever are amazing. My first electric guitar was a Lindell VN4 pictured in this book. I wish I still had it!

Five Stars
V. Interesting book. We need a similar history for the 1980s period.

Great resource for the MIJ guitar collector or wannabe one
This book was my "last hope" in trying to identify a Made in Japan guitar that I bought from the local buy and sell. I did my Google research but didn't come up with anything conclusive. Once the book arrived, I flipped through the pages and Voila! On page 87 was my very guitar! Now, of course, the book has taught me about many more guitars from Japan, their histories, oddities and has ignited a beast within that desires to collect more of these unique guitars. Great book for the collector and guitar-interested alike. The book sheds a detailed light on an important era of guitar development.
