Petal: A World of Flowers Through the Artist's Eye Hardcover – April 21, 2020

Her paintings stand out from most botanical art because, though she paints accurately, she does so with less scientific detail. Looking at her art is more like gazing around a garden and less like glaring at a plant through a magnifying glass. She works on softly colored backgrounds that aren't so much contrasting with the flowers as enriching them. Tranquil and energizing at the same time. Unique.The book is a good inch-thick at 250 or so pages, beautifully printed and bound, amazing colors, indexed, a bit hefty in the hand, and downright overwhelming to page through in one sitting. Each chapter begins with a page of text on the history of the family of flowers gathered there and then the painting takes over.After getting kind of flower-blind the first time I went through the book, I made a place for it next to my desk and now do two facing pages a day so that I can (1) enjoy the paintings more and (2) better take in how she paints. It will be a coffee table book at some point in the living room, but right now I'm greedily keeping it all to myself.

I saw this advertised by one of my favorite artists and I am so happy I ordered it, very beautiful photos and the colors are unique to this artist which sets it apart from other books.

Being able to pick up this book and look at the beauty of nature and flowers is a welcome distraction in the age of quarantine, and a good reminder that if you step outside and observe what's around you, what you'll mostly find is beauty. The illustrations are gorgeous, realistic, colorful and warm. I love it!

No joke, this book is mindblowing. Every page stops my heart with the unexpected and brilliant color combinations, and the effortless flow of the plants. It's truly a gem. Better than 99% of the art books or coffee table books I've ever come across. Not to be missed.

The book is everything i expected it to be and more. In love with all the colors incorporated! Not a fan of whoever packaged this book. two “defects” to the cover of the book so far and haven’t found any others yet.the front cover has somewhat of a hard bubble that i don’t think belongs. when i opened the book something dark caught my eye. further inspection it was a sticky something that caused the paper to be mis colored and ripped. Obviously this isn’t the authors fault but more so the packager. Hopefully no one else encounters this problem

El libro es lo máximo según lo que tu esperas, en mi caso busco referencias visuales e inspiración de flores para pintar. Este libro tiene todo lo que busco y además es toda una experiencia visual, su paleta de colores de fondo en el contenido sumado a su bella tapa y contrapa, incluso hablemos del color del filo de las hojas, la autora pensó en todo. Es una pieza infaltable, lo recomiendo si buscan lo mismo que busco.

This book is absolutely stunning - every detail from the cover to the typography is perfect. It’s a beautiful and unique addition to any home.

Usually I prefer realistic botanical paintings. At the beginning I am not sure if I am going to keep the book, but got back to the book several time. Finally I can feel the paintings are glowing in front of me and falling in love with the book. I believe it will be one of my companions who will guide me through my artistic journey

È un bellissimo libro. Le illustrazioni sono una più bella dell'altra. Non è proprio un libro da leggere ma piu per tenerlo sulla scrivania in esposizione. Ho comprato come regalo per una mia amica. È rimasta contenta.

Brought this for a friend's birthday and ended up buying the book again for myself. Not just beautifully illustrated but really interesting to read about the history and mythology of the different flower species.
