As an anglophone Jew, I learned to read Hebrew as a child, but that doesn't mean I understand what's written in a prayer book or chumash. I would try to read the English in my head as I followed the Hebrew words, to try to understand what I was saying. This obviously was very time consuming, and during the Torah Reading at synagogue I would fall behind.Not anymore! I am a big fan of the interlinear Artscroll books, as I can follow along and understand at the same time! It might be a bit confusing at first, since the English words are above the Hebrew so you go right to left. However, after overcoming the initial hurdle, I found my understanding (and kavanah) to go way up.Pros: Large print, easy to read, great for comprehensionCons: Takes a bit of time to get used to the formatI recommend this to anyone who isn't fluent in Biblical Hebrew... which is probably most people out there!

I am dedicated to totally understanding every layer of meaning when I read and chant torah. My only question is- Why is a book of this kind- so valuable for learning- so difficult to locate?I am delighted to have this in my Jewish library.

I had heard so much about these books and they are fantastic. Whether you're beginning or seasoned it is great to read the words of our greatest Rabbis.

I purchased this Chumash so I could practice reading and understanding the Hebrew language and of course study Yah's word. I LOVE it and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is b/c I don't understand why the translator needs to use 'God' and 'Lord'.Why can't they use 'Elohim' and 'Adonai' or 'Yahweh' instead of Pagen words. I really don't know anywhere else you can find the Hebrew and English right underneath it so you can see exactly what you have read. Very cool! Praise Yah!!
