An excellent memoir from a favorite PBS cooking teacher and chef
This book is fabulous for those of us who enjoy Joanne Weir's PBS cooking shows. She writes in such a way that I was hooked from the beginning, her story is as interesting as one would find in a novel. However, for those of us who love to cook, it is far better than a novel. For one cannot read it without going away hungry and inspired to close the book and cook. Which may be why it took awhile to read all of it.This book is both memoir and recipe book. So if you just want recipes, reach for another of her books. If you want to learn more about Joanne and the way she cooks... then this is the book for you.

(NOT GREAT) WRONG...love it
"Disappointing for my taste and interest, i.e. have not made one dish yet and probably will not either."Right is right, I totally reverse my harsh critic from sometime ago and wholeheartely love the book. Lately, I have been sick and not getting any interest in actually cooking something, but I came across the gorgeous picture of the citrus salad and went for it. Sublime, devine comes to mind. Now I am reading the book and have many notes already attached to it.I also like to apologize to Joanne for giving a bad review and hope she will be happy.

Fun to Read anddd lots of great recipes to make as soon as you can!
I bought the book from Amazon and could not wait to get into it. A very likable cookbook from her hands to your kitchen...if you have enjoyed the television show you might think she is right there guiding and having a good time cooking with you! A wish, of course...the oatmeal raisin cookiesare Crunchy, sweet enough ,great texture and delicious. It looks like Joanne has chosen the recipes for how she likes to eat..All of the recopes look good and are well written. There are so many, goood pictures and recipes, I will be going back to Kitchen Gypsy many times as well as for the stories she tells...How she got to go to France still makes me laugh.I bought it for myself and would give it as a gift to someone who loves to cook or wants to love cooking. The back cover with the beautiful orange salad tells you that Joanne Weier loves truly delicious fresh food and highlights the benefits of fappreciating in season ingreditnets!

Very Special Foodie Memoir
Kitchen Gypsy : recipes and stories by Joanne Weir is a beautfully presented food memoir with lots of photographs, recipes, and remembrances of her past, and earlier cooking experiences. The marinated and grilled Halibut with a pistachio -mint salsa verde was delicious and her spiced chicken was very good. I'm looking forward to trying many more recipes, and also to making these two recipes again very soon.

I was a bit disappointed in this book
I was a bit disappointed in this book. I had hopes that this book would be along the lines of her show on PBS, but it isn't. I didn't see any recipes in it that I would make. I can't recommend it.

Another Book for my Favorites Shelf
This is a great read as well as a lovely and approachable collection of recipes. I have several of Joanne's earlier books that have always been counted in my go-to favorites. With Kitchen Gypsy, the collection of memories woven around the food lends context and texture to the cooking experience. The recipes are well-tested and clearly presented, and Joanne's penchant for vibrant flavors and approachable technique makes this a book that lives on the kitchen shelf that holds all my favorites.

I enjoyed It so much that I bought a copy for ...
I purchased this book on a whim. I enjoyed It so much that I bought a copy for a dear friend who loves to cook and has many cookbooks. Joanne4 Weir takes the reader on her food journey from childhood to the present. She starts with a mouth-watering tomato sandwich and you are on a journey you don't want to end. Most fun cookbook ever.

Down home stories with Upscale Cuisine
excellent narrative writing with humorous stories of travels and food. A good book for foodies, not for the novice cook. Some recipes anyone could handle, others take intuitive cooking experience.and skill. Could not stop turning the page to see the next history or adventure of her life. Good layout, good photography-- but with Sunset handling that- who could miss.
