Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway, Pirate Cove Discovery Set

I think this is a really nice new set when some of the newer sets have been more hit and miss. The hill is really to centerpiece of this one and it's worth it to my 2 year old boys. It's a nice steep hill with a button that helps make the trains go from a resting position on top of the hill down the track (at least that's how my boys use it...I'm not sure that's what it's intended to do).The bridge is also a nice unique addition as well as the boat.In short quite a few unique new pieces in this set that my boys really like and we have just about everything Thomas because my boys love it. Was definitely a good buy for us.

The media could not be loaded. This set is a great addition to Thomas Wooden Railway collection. However, I will say that the price for it was a little more than I would expect for a set of this size (Amazon has the best price by far on this set, I just think FP has raised the prices and cut the sizes of the sets). It didn't seem to have as many wooden track pieces or special pieces that usually come with the $100+ price range. If you want Skiff (he's the boat train) Fisher-Price Thomas the Train Wooden Railway Skiff the Railboat Train you have to purchase him seperately. Also this set had several pieces made from plastic materials which I understand for durability and shaping (like the rocky bridge and the blue water pieces) but I prefer wood. The part that is supposed to be the piece de resistance, the uncovering of the treasure, was just 'meh" in my opinion. The train goes by and the treasure pops up and flies a little way and lands somewhere random. To me, the treasure should have landed in a cart carried by Thomas (or at least had a clear function. As is, it doesn't even land on the track and it just sits in the "hiding place". My three elementary-aged boys really enjoyed playing with this and none of these things bothered the playability of the set as a whole with the rest of our collection but I think this set has to have Skiff Fisher-Price Thomas the Train Wooden Railway Skiff the Railboat Train and the Pirate Delivery Train set Fisher-Price Thomas the Train Wooden Railway Pirate Ship Delivery Train Set in order to be fully complete. My youngest really loved the pirate ship that comes with this. It is huge (almost 7 1/2 " long) and is a "train' by itself because it has wheels built on the bottom. Overall, this set is unique and fun and my boys liked playing with it (hence the 4 stars) but I am hoping the plastic pieces are not something that is going to become a standard large part of the wooden series. We have another wooden Thomas pirate set that I prefer Pirate's Cove Set Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Pirates Cove Set I am not sure they still produce it anymore but I found a picture and another reseller at the above link so you can compare.

Fun for a short time, but frustrating because large ship is not lined up with draw bridge and never goes under it like the box shows. Grandkids don't really play with it anymore.

Worth the money. Great detail and love the little extras like the fire balls and the signs. Of course it's made well and will be handed down.

while this set was a little difficult to put together and I don't think it easily built into other track configuration it is cute and the perfect gift for a child that loves Thomas and pirates. The coolest thing about this set is the little pirate ship complete with wheels that actually fits on the Thomas wood tracks! It fits on the Thomas wood table with space.

It was well worth the money and I can't wait to give it to my son!

This was supposed to be the BIG Christmas present...but it is quite lame. The train can not manage to stay on the track, nothing seems to line up the way it should, and I even struggle to secure some of the pieces that a child should be able to. I give it 3 stars because it is track...and my son likes the drawbridge...although now that I think of it...for the price, that's just ridiculous. 2 stars.

Really a great toy, arrived on time, gift for grandson
