It's perfect. The sandwich meets his required meal size/weight
My fella had gastric bypass surgery and requires measured meals. He has to make sure he gets enough protein intake for each meal. This requires many home cooked/preped meals. No problem but would reqire getting up at 4-4:30am to fix a homemade breakfast in order to get out the door in time for work. So I ran across this item and seen the time, 5 minutes to fix a basic home made breakfast sandwiches. He loves. I mean really loves this appliance. It's perfect. The sandwich meets his required meal size/weight, has plenty of protein via the egg and meats he adds and takes no time to fix. He can change up the sandwich in so many ways. Can change the bread used. Now this has been a bit of a challenge because we had to find smaller bread items. The size of a normal English Muffin is a good reference. Examples :: Small biscuits, mini bagels, mini croissants have worked. The sandwich thins or bagel thins would be perfect but are a bit big in circumference, so they need to be trimmed down. Then can change up veggies added. They just have to be in smaller pieces and quantity. Examples :: onions, peppers, mushrooms, jalapeños, etc. Then can change it up by switching out meats. ( Note meats do have to be cooked prior if raw but we do these in batches and store in freezer. Also have found variety packages of meats like panchetta, prosciutto, salami etc that are cut up and just have to divide them up and freeze and ready bacon is a good shortcut ) Examples: sausage, bacon, steak, ham, turkey, even thin salmon slices, etc. Then can switch up the cheeses too. The combos are endless and after years of use he still hasn't tired of the sandwiches. Eats one almost 5 times a week because of the variety of sandwiches that can be made and all in 5 minutes time. He says it's been one of the best gifts he's gotten. And yes, it actually cooks the egg completely. Can have the yolk runny with a shorter cook time. So as you can see this is a great product. And still works fantastic after over 1,000 of uses.Only thing I wish has nothing to do with product. It would be nice to have thin bread options in the perfect size to fit machine and variety cooked meat items that go from store to your freezer without having to cook up batches. Maybe a future marketing item if Hamilton Beach wants to go into food market or partner up with some food vendors, lol.

It does NOT leak or have runny eggs if you read the manual...so easy a kid can do it!
Fortunately I have loved enough of their former products to want to try this out even though I read some reviews where people had issues...fortunately I realized those were user error after getting it. I actually do read the instructions before trying out something new and this one really requires it on two parts...Glad I did because I am obsessed with this and I live in Texas where breakfast tacos are on every street corner. Mine are now the best!First, to ensure it does not leak, you must do two things: 1. PREHEAT..just takes a minute...if you pour egg into a cold pan it will run also. Secondly, you must TURN THE PLATE KNOB all the way to the right to seal it...it cannot leak even if it's cold that way. Literally impossible... However, if you don't do that it will. I would never have thought that had I not read the directions. Also the instructions say not to use the liquid eggs you buy in containers. Those leak...sometimes they don't depending upon how thick they are, but they add water to those so the carton of egg whites or egg beaters will cause leaking. Again, if you read the instructions...no probRunny egg: You either forgot to preheat or you did not set your time correctly...you can set the time for what works best for the size egg you are using so it's up to you. I personally do 4.5 minutesI eat a breakfast under 300 calories daily now. Thats amazing! And tastes like fast food!I like to use a corn tortilla, egg, cheese or laughing cow diet cheese, salsa when finished and avocado slice when finished.I bought several for gifts. This thing rocks.

The Hamilton Beach warranty is a JOKE!
We love the product and used a previous one for years. This one failed in 3 weeks.Hamilton Beach no longer makes it and the warranty requires you to accept a substitute product and PAY $11.49 shipping, in order to get your money's worth. Really hate when a manufacturer stops making a really excellent product and then leaves people who love it hanging. The machine takes a tortilla, an egg, and some meat and quickly cooks a delicious easy to eat sandwich. Easy clean up and a convenient size make it ideal for quick breakfast.I wish a competitor would pick up the design and re-issue the product for those of us who want what it can make.

It works. But it has a few shortcomings.
Get's the job done, but has shortcomings. 1) It starts heating as soon as you plug it in, there is no power button. 2) The timer does not turn the heat off, only beeps at you. 3) The cord is very, very short. 4) Cleaning might be a hassle.I bought this to heat my Julian Bakery protein bars in the morning, since they are too tough to eat cold. I had to come up with a clever solution to use this cooker: I use a remote controlled electric outlet adapter (Etekcity) to turn my lamps on and off, so I put one of those on this cooker too. I put the protein bar in at night before bed, so when I wake up I hit the button that turns the cooker on. I set a 5 minute timer on my watch, and by that time I hit the button off so it turns off, and retrieve my warm protein bar. It may not be the most elegant solution, but I already had all the parts available.
