Higgins Sunburst Gourmet Food Mix For Hamsters And Gerbils

this food is filled with whole ingredients and great nutrients for hamsters! i highly recommend feeding it to yours. I’ve owned 15 hamsters in the last 2 years (most were rescues), they’ve all LOVED this food and the rescues seemed to improve a lot health wise based on their coat while on this diet.

The only thing my gerbils don't care for is the green pellets. They gobble this stuff up. This particular batch seems to be very well mixed with a higher than average amount of particulates (sunflower seeds, corn mash, pumpkin seeds, etc) than previous batches. I guess I got lucky. Nonetheless, I've heard a few pocket-pet experts on Youtube site the Higgins Sunburst as one of the best all-in-one store bought blends to purchase for nutrition balance. So yeah, I'll keep coming back for this and supplement with fun treats as needed.

Decided to try this brand and blend out. I had bugs get into the 3 other bags of food I had been giving them. This stuff looks much higher quality than the name brand stuff I was getting at the local pet stores. The gerbils who are a bit anti social with everybody with me, even then they are a little standoffish. But now when I open the cage for feeding they are all over my hand, letting me pick them up and pet them. Maybe it's a coincidence, but they seem much more excited to have human interaction after the food change lol.

First off, this seed mix smells really fresh! It smells very good, no stale odors or texture, it all smells very tasty and in a very fresh condition after opening. I'm glad it has a resealable bag too, and the bag itself is pretty big and heavy, it holds a lot of food! The mix has no random dust or crumbs in it, which I appreciate.I also enjoy that the ingredients can be visibly seen when just looking at the mix itself. I like how there is a variety in sizes when it comes to each ingredient, big sunflower seeds and flakes, then the smaller seeds that they can sniff around in and search for the right one to pouch. I can also see this mix being good for keeping their teeth in good shape.The reason for one star being knocked off though is just due to the amount of corn chunks and pellets, which I'm not the biggest fan of. Corn is often filler and pellets aren't the most enriching form of food either, and they're usually just hay or other filler. Besides that though, you can just pick some of the larger bits out. I'd recommend providing some extra source of protein to add into this seed mix if you do that.I've provided two images of two random scoops, about 8 teaspoons each. Each scoop is different, so I've shown two different examples of what an 8 tsp scoop looked like for me.Overall, I'd buy this again, possibly making my own adjustments to it to suit what my hamster needs. It's a great seed mix and probably one of the top best options for store bought hamster foods.

My hamsters love this seed mix. I had one hamster who found the bag open during free roaming and climbed inside. They are not a fan of the little pellets because they are mostly hay which hamsters do not like or need. Please give your hamsters a good protein rich lab block like Mazuri or Envigo.
