AUVON Scissors-Shaped Pill Cutter, Sharp Blade Pill Splitter for Easily Dividing Most 5-15mm Vitamins, Tablets and Medications in Half

I had never owned a pair of pill cutter scissors. Which I find funny because I have used a variety of pill splitter devices. I came across some pills that were a little harder for my typical pill splitter device to evenly cut. I tried a couple of new devices with no luck. I then saw this listed and figured I would give it a try. It has been working great for the harder pills. I still use my standard splitter device for the softer pills and especially for triangle shaped pills, this does not work so well with really soft pills and triangle shaped pills. But, for the harder pills I need it for, it works great. Not sure how long the sharpness will last, but plan to update if I have issues.

My mother deals with a lot of pain issues resulting from a work injury over a decade ago, and a few of her medications make her sleepy at full dosage, so she'll take a half dosage during the day to better fight that side effect. And her cyclobenzapine is the hardest to cut since it's tiny and crumbles easily. These cutters work perfectly for cutting them in half and not ending up with a lot of pill in dust form, but instead just two neat pieces.

I've only used this pill cutter once, so my review won't be an in depth one. About 2 years ago my cat was diagnosed with a treatable condition. She was given a prescription of human medication that is reasonably priced. Here's the problem: the pills made for humans are way too strong for a 13 lb. cat, so I have to cut them in half. The pills are very small. When I tried a standard pill cutter the blade didn't even reach the top of the pill. I resorted to using knife, but the pills are very dense and don't "cut" without a lot of strength. I've shattered the pills countless times. Finally, I discovered these scissors. It was so easy and such a pleasant experience I can hardly believe it. And, as a bonus it's much easier to see the center of the pill so I can give my cat a more accurate dose of her medication.

I bought this pill cutter 2.5mnths ago, & have been totally shocked & amazed by such a huge game changer. I wish I'd tried this long ago, after trying to use other pill cutters for yrs now. I tried all available options I found, but none lasted more than a few pills, & they all lasted less than a wk. I even tried biting them, but that just broke my teeth. I thought this cutter might not work for me, w/severe tremors & weakness, but it was easy to use. I've now used it several times a day, for 2.5mnths, 10x longer than any other I've ever found. More than lasting, it looks & works the same as when I 1st came & I tried it. I've recommended it to all who can use it. I'm buying a backup for me, just so I never have to do w/out it again.

Product says for use with capsules, but I was able to use it with small, round pills I take, which do have an indented line down the middle. The indented line is essential for using these scissors with small round pills; you need to inset the pill in the scissors so the line on the pill lines up with cutting blades. Then, gently close the scissor blades to hold the pill and ensure lined up. but don't cut yet! Once the scissors are holding the pill properly, gently apply slight pressure and the pill snaps in half. You might lose a pill or two practicing, but works well once you get the hang of it. You do need a steady hand for positioning the pill between the blades.

I rarely take the time to post reviews, but am very pleasantly surprised at how well this little tool works, especially for a hard oblong supplement that I need to cut into 1/4s. I have been using a traditional pill splitter for years. It’s ok for some things can be inconsistent. For my B2 supplements, it was always uneven, I had to press really hard and it would crush a lot of the vitamin, etc.Best things about these little scissors:- I didn’t have to apply that much pressure even though it’s a hard supplement- I could be very precise in where I wanted the cut (even on the second cut)- I felt very safe doing it (no contact with the blade)- The pills didn’t go flying like they do with a knife on a cutting boardI’m wondering how long the blade will last and if it can be sharpened. I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. But, overall super happy with this purchase.

These scissors are consistently more effective for splitting pills cleanly (without crushes & crumbles) vs the various miniature-guillotine-in-a-case type splitters. But, it does require a bit of dexterity and clear close-up vision to line up the tablet between the blades ‘before’ clamping down. If your hands shake a little, or youre missing your ‘readers,’ results may vary. These are built more like small pliers with thick blades that can cut harder & thicker tablets. I check the placement of the bottom blade (one facing up) to be sure its hitting the middle of the tablet (top blade facing down is easy to see) and that helps ensure both top and bottom blades are coming together in the middle of the tablet.

Wonderful! I got this after needing to divide 20mg omeprazole (Prilosec) into 5mg doses for my dog. Using a knife was so frustrating, time consuming, and it was hard to get accurate divisions. But this handy cutter slices through the pills with ease and accuracy! It does take some dexterity to get the smaller pieces but it's as precise as you'll get. It's worth the money!
