A Writer's Reference with Exercises 8th edition by Hacker, Diana, Sommers, Nancy (2014) Spiral-bound

As someone who is of at least average intelligence and working towards completion of an MFA, I am an abysmally awkward wordsmith and my visual work tends to suffer because of the supplemental written discourse needed to accompany it for gallery proposals. This book is truly invaluable in helping you analyse your own weaknesses and strengths, while also offering many refresher tips on basic language structure that we tend to forget upon leaving grammar school and reaching higher academia. If you write for a living (and we all do to a degree), at minimum check this text out from your local library and copy what you find most important. I am positive you will be so impressed and intrigued by what is within its pages that you'll purchase your own. I can attest it is the single most important reference I have purchased in nearly five years and is used several times a month even now.

Every college freshman needs this book. I took AP English courses in high school but this book is helpful to me. You will learn how to do different types of formatting and how to make the most efficient paper. Even small things like P.O.V. and number shifts can become clearer to you for editing your paper. You wont ever need to go to the writing center after you study this material.

I bought this book from the seller JW-Wilson and they can be trusted. Looked around and found this seller that was fairly cheap and great ratings. The cover pages are a little damaged, but this was expected as it said "Used-good condition." However, the pages inside the book are in great condition. No writing, highlighting, or other issues. Inside looks like the book is brand new. Overall very satisfied and happy with this purchase.

I was required to use this book for class. The new 2016 MLA Update is extremely helpful. The new design of the book doesn't just have a spiral to keep it together, but has an additional piece of plastic running on what would be the book's spine to keep it together, which is extremely beneficial so that at the end of the term the spiral hasn't unwound. The content of the book is also helpful. Although I knew a lot of the information and some of it seems a bit wordy, the content that I did not know was helpful. Would recommend.

There are plenty of writers references out there. For me, this is the best. It's awesome that it's spiral bound and tabbed, making it easy to find almost anything you need. There are clear examples throughout the book on applying the different rules. I can't say enough great things about Hacker. I don't see a ton of difference between the eight and the sixth edition of which I own both but I'm sure I'll find some. Overall, if you're a writer, I highly recommend you have a copy of this book and keep it on your desk. It's invaluable.

I had to purchase this for school. Everything that's in this book is on the internet basically. I rented an ebook so I really didn't look in it at all during class.

This has been very helpful, especially for grammar worksheets. The book explains grammar concepts in detail, providing multiple examples. The sections on MLA, Chicago, etc. are excellent and provide examples for bibliographies, works cited pages, in-text citations, etc. Very useful for any English course.

This guide is absolutely amazing. It was recommended by a teacher and I picked it up being that this sounded useful. I can't say enough good things about this book and it has helped me greatly. I constantly use it for my citations!
