Compact, lightweight and powerful
These lanterns are amazing. I can't believe how bright they are. We live in Florida and have to be prepared for power outages. Everyone in Florida should have these!Even on the lowest setting, they give off bright light. The highest setting lights up at least a 30' x 30' area.

My favorite LED lantern
I station six LED lanterns throughout the house as back-up light in case of a power outage. I bought several different brands of lights as I was replacing my old incandescent lanterns and flashlights to see what features I liked the best. The AYL turned out to be the all-around best for my needs, with the near-identical Lepro a close second.I like the size and lighter weight of the smaller lanterns. The round base of the AYL fits comfortably in my hand, allowing me to easily push the light button with my thumb. This is especially nice when I remove the globe and use the lantern as a flashlight. My larger lanterns don’t put out any more light but their extra batteries do increase run time. So I consider them better suited for camping or in areas that experience extended power outages. I’m fortunate to live in an area where power failures are rare and when they do occur their duration is measured in minutes, not hours.Another feature I’d never do without is a diffused globe. LED light is very harsh and without some kind of diffusion it glares into your eyes seemingly regardless of where the lantern is placed. The diffusion on the AYL and Lepro aren’t the best, but work well enough. Though you do see the LEDs if the lantern is below your eyes.Although the AYL, Lepro and other brands of this lantern are identical in appearance, their LED arrays can vary. The AYL has two semi-circles of rectangular daylight LEDs with a center cluster of four amber LEDs. Conversely, the Lepro has a semi-circle of round daylight LEDs, a semi-circle of amber LEDs, and a center cluster of four red LEDs used only for the flashing mode. All the LEDs on the AYL can be powered at once, making it the brighter lantern since it has more LEDs.Control is another feature that varies among these Chinese lanterns. The sequence on the AYL is AMBER-DAYLIGHT-BOTH-FLASHING. What I love about it is once you select a mode, say the daylight setting, after a few seconds the lantern can be turned off just by pressing the button again without cycling through the annoying flashing position that my other lanterns require. I’d prefer a lantern with just daylight LEDs and a simple HIGH/LOW/OFF control, but I guess others like the additional features.I’m phasing out my use of D batteries with the excellent Whizzo Tech AA-to-D adapters that accept one to three AA batteries. I’m still using alkaline batteries but am slowly switching to white Eneloop rechargeables. Reattaching the bottom cap after inserting batteries is tricky at first, but if the directions that are right here on Amazon are followed, it’s fairly easy. I’m an old guy with arthritic hands, so if I can do it anyone can!

Great Lantern
I have 3 of these now and I love them. There are different settings which makes it nice. The light is bright and will light up a room nicely. Great lantern and I recommend it to anyone wanting a light for emergencies. I keep one sitting at my desk in my office, one in my bedroom and one my husband uses. I may buy a couple more. The price is good, and it works well with no problems so far.

Provides great light.
The only thing that would be better is if it were rechargeable.

Excellent lantern
This is an excellent and reasonably priced lantern. Small but with three brightness settings. I now have four of them for when the power goes out.

Great for extra lighting
I have used this for a long time. Original batteries still working. I just began using it as an extra light for the pantry, but is very assessable for emergency situations.

Not a bad little lantern, especially for the price
Got this lantern on a deal alert for 15$. For that price, its a no brainer. I also own a 3D cell UST lantern, and this one puts it to shame. Very bright, almost too bright! I put some blue masking tape on the "globe" dome inside the housing, and that softened the light. The twilight mode is really all you need. The day light modes really kick things into high gear and will light up a large room easily. The handle feels secure and not flimsy. Build quality seems quite good. One thing that Ive found with some of these lanterns is that trying to put the battery door on can be a pain. Many times you have to "clock" the door so it fits just right before it engages. This lantern though, what a relief. You just line up the center peg and tighten the base- done!Just a great all around lantern that doesnt disappoint. Even at full price of 25$ its a bargain. Perfect for camping, power outages or just an outside light for those evening summer barbecues
