it would be possible to make a better designed and more useful tool than this
These pliers, are, well, meh... I have a pair and they are basically ok linesman pliers, but they are not in any way top-notch tools. The padded handles are nicer than a bare tool, but not nearly as well designed as some. I think even for being cheap, it would be possible to make a better designed and more useful tool than this. The finger stops on the tool are not well placed for anyone who has large hands, and for anyone who has smaller hands, the tool will be rather bulky. The padding is not smooth and comfortable in the hand, and is generally shaped in a way that is awkward to grab. The cutters on my pair were never fully sharp. They have about two to three millimeters of flatness between each side, making it much harder to cut wire than they should be. I doubt these things even make it cheaper to manufacture. I just don't think they were designed by someone who cared much about what they were making, and there probably was not adequate quality control in the item's manufacture.
