Awesome Mario Game
Almost every Mario game is awesome. And this one is no exception. Great game. Brought this for my son, who is a huge fan of Mario. We have all different games from Paper Mario to Super Smash Bros. But this one has really grabbed hold of him. He will sit there for hours and play on this game. Normally, I would be concerned but the aspect of him creating new levels from scratch and then sharing them online. That is part I love most about this game. You can create any kind of level in any Mario theme, from original NES Mario to Mario version on Wii U. You control every aspect of that level, from placement of block, coin, power-ups to enemy. The other aspect that I really like is that you can share this over the Nintendo universe. You can play levels others have created and other can play what you have created. Talk about collaboration on the gaming front for young kids and older kids too. Haha. In playing this game, I have found my son thinking outside the box. He is also playing other people’s level and grabbing ideas to mold it to what he wants to get done on one of his levels. Any game that encourages creative thinking and collaboration is a great tool. But that being said, I do find it hard to limit my son and occasionally myself on the game. Because it is so addictive. Over all it is a wonderful game. It is hours of enjoyable fun. Below is the description for the game on Nintendo’s website. The Mario experience of your dreams has arrived and is bursting with creativity... including yours! Play a near-limitless number of intensely creative Super Mario levels from players around the world. It’s easy enough to create your own levels with the Wii U GamePad controller that it may feel like you’re simply sketching out your ideas on paper, but you can now bring enemies and objects into a playable course in ways you could only dream of before. What was impossible in traditional Mario games is now impossibly fun, so let your imagination run wild! Bonus: All editions of Super Mario Maker come with a collectable book that features: • Ideas from the Nintendo development team to inspire your creations • Special codes that you can enter into the online manual to watch videos of creations from the development team • Concept art and level designs from the original Super Mario Bros The book comes with all physical copies of the game. For digital purchases, check your Nintendo eShop receipt for instructions on how to request a copy. You can also download a free digital version of the book on the official microsite when the game launches. Offer only valid in US, Canada, and Mexico. Features • Play a near-limitless number of Mario levels created by Nintendo and players around the world. • Create your own Mario levels by using the Wii U GamePad controller touch screen to add enemies, blocks, pipes and more. • Break the conventions of traditional Super Mario gameplay by blending enemies, traps and items into unexpected twists, like Piranha Plant-shooting cannons, power-up-tossing Lakitus, or even Hammer Bros. riding on Bowser while bouncing on trampolines. • Touch control, instant editing and a robust online ranking and search system makes creating, playing and sharing a seamless process. • Switch between four distinct themes, each with different art styles and features: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. U. • Transform into different characters at random with the new Mystery Mushroom item. Expand the roster of possible characters by completing 100 Mario Challenge mode or tapping compatible amiibo.. • Transform into different characters at random with the new Mystery Mushroom item. Let the player become the creator.
Super Mario Maker for the Wii U is an attempt at bridging the gap between the player and creator of a video game. Nintendo brings us a suite of tools that allows the player to create their own 2-D Super Mario levels. Spanning almost 30 years of gaming content, Super Mario Maker brings a lot of gaming content at a relatively low cost and high replay value. If you are a fan of Super Mario Brothers or video games in general, you should try your hand at this unique gaming experience. Overview: Super Mario Maker is built around two gameplay mechanics. First there is the creation option, where you can create your own Super Mario courses using the Wii U’s gamepad. You start off with some of the more basic and memorable building options, and as you build you will unlock more course options. Nintendo originally intended for course content to be released to the player over a period of a few days, but they added an option for impatient players to unlock content in a matter of minutes. How you make your course is up to you. I like to make longer levels with intricate puzzles and little danger whereas someone else may want a level full of enemies and obstacles for increased difficulty. The second mechanic is the play option. After you have finished creating your level you can, of course, play it. Super Mario Maker even gives you the ability to play other levels created by players around the world. I should note that one disadvantage of the game is that an internet connection is required to get the full enjoyment out of this option of the game, as you cannot access other user’s content without it. You can find and play these in a few unique ways. First is the course library, which allows you to find and play courses based on criteria such as the number of likes or the number of completions. If you want to find a specific level, they are identified by a 16-digit code. You can type in this code to start playing the course immediately. My favorite way of trying new courses is through the “100 Mario Challenge” mode. In this mode, you are given 100 tries to complete a series of eight to 16 user-created courses. The variety of courses you encounter seems to be the hallmark of Super Mario Maker. Evaluation: I think it is best to base my evaluation of Super Mario Maker on enjoyment and replay value. I sincerely enjoyed creating levels, and the user interface that allows you to create the content is top notch. Playing through user-created levels is a blast, and the ability to comment and communicate with other creators is a nice touch. In terms of replay value, Super Mario Maker is almost unmatched. The amount of content available to you as the player is almost infinite, as there are always more levels being created and all you need is an internet connection. I would recommend Super Mario Maker to video game lovers of all ages.

Honest Review if you are considering buying this
Before I get into an unbiased review of the game, the reason I gave this game 4 stars is because it met my expectations of what it was going to be. I've played all the home console versions of Super Mario games since the original Nintendo from the 80's. I've enjoyed each one tremendously for it's uniqueness in each new version so in that regard I am a bit bias towards the Italian plumber in blue overalls. Every Mario game is going to have some gaming nostalgia / excitement for me regardless if the general consensus on the game is good or bad. But if you are like me, you probably dreamed about creating your own levels and obstacle courses since the original Super Mario Bros. Well this game is exactly that. It is a creative tool with the sole purpose of creating your own vision of what a 2D side scrolling Super Mario Game could be. It also allows you to search, find, and play a variety of levels designed by people with the same desire to create their own challenges. With that in mind here is what you should consider if you are on the fence about purchasing this game and have no idea what type of game it is: WHAT THIS GAME IS NOT - Not a story based game. There is no Mushroom Kingdom to save from peril. - Not a completed game filled with various course worlds and an eventual ending. - It does not contain any full versions of the Super Mario games that are featured in the tools. - Not a 3D Super Mario Level Designer. So you cannot design a Super Mario Galaxy level or a Super Mario 3D World level. WHAT THIS GAME IS - A tool to design your own levels based off the various versions of the 2D Super Mario Games - Using your creativity and thought process to design a level. So if it's not your cup of tea, this game won't be any fun for you. - Designing levels - Going online and playing different Super Mario Levels designed by other gamers. If you ever played Little Big Planet on Playstation, it's the same idea except that all the community courses have to be course completed by the designer before they can upload them. So even if you can't complete the course and it seems impossible, it is possible to complete it because somebody had to do it just to upload it. - The course challenges included in the game unlock various items to use in the maker. The courses are varied and don't follow a story. It's pretty much left to your ability as a Super Mario gamer. Some are easy, some a bit more challenging. So these might prove to be difficult for some inexperienced Super Mario gamers. - Designing levels - Unlocking new items by spending time designing levels - Designing levels FINAL NOTE The graphics are traditional and true to the retro Super Mario games. So don't expect updated Super Mario All-stars/ 3D world graphics. It is up-scaled in resolution so the game looks great on the full screen of your T.V. Even the 8-bit graphics look crisp and clean at 1080p. Each level you create is intended to fit into one of the 4 Mario game designs. So some obstacles may work for one level design but not necessarily work for another. So yes pretty much the extent of the game is designing levels and playing gamer created levels. This was my full expectation of what the game was meant to be which is why I gave it 4 stars. It met what I was expecting. Only critique is that you are locked into a level aesthetic in your design. In my opinion if it was meant to be a true Mario Maker I would have wanted to have the ability to add different items from the various levels into my level design. Like for instance adding lava to the tunnel design or adding the dungeon bricks to the outdoor level to create an outdoor dungeon. I guess it could potentially Frankenstein the heck out of a level design but why not give us that freedom? Also mystery mushrooms/ Amibos only work in the Original Super Mario level designer. A small bummer and where I took one star off for my own personal review. I would've only done 1/2 a star if I could. The game is still fantastic as it is and I don't regret purchasing it. Yes the unlocking of items is a hassle but I like the idea of having a few items to design a level at a time. It forces you to really think about the design instead of having all the tools and banging out levels like a crazed Mario Maker maniac. FINAL THOUGHTS The game is fun for what it is. My wife and son are not the best Super Mario gamers out there. But when I designed a level that was tuned to their abilities and they were able to complete the course, that made the game worth it to me and to them because we all can enjoy Mario at our own level(no pun intended). The goal of the game is not to create the most impossible level you can think of(which is fun but you feel bad when your online level has 5% completion rate). I think most people enjoy a level that gives them a bit of a challenge but is not inundated with enemies or obstacles. My most popular level had a few simple jumps over spikes, one flying turtle, and a bullet bill pyramid that had a star power option to get through it easily and reach the goal post. I really hope that Nintendo can give us some DLC that adds items from other franchises to add to our levels. It would be cool to make a Castlevania level, a Metroid Level, or even a Mega Man level. So if you love the idea of creating your own Super Mario levels, love the idea of playing levels created by other gamers whether they be good or bad, running through 100 course challenges to unlock items, and can spend hours detailing out by trial and error a level design, then this game will satisfy all those desires.

BEST mario game yet!
So this game is awesome. We purchased it for our son for Christmas. He has been having an absolute blast with it since. There are so many different things that you can do with this it's not even funny. When you first start there's not as many options, but as you build levels and move up and do different things, new things are unlocked in the game. There are different game styles of mario, like the old fashioned super mario bros, super mario, and the newer wii mario. It is so fun. You can make the levels shorter or longer. You can use an array of different types of enemys, weapons, cannons, flowers, tubes, blocks, power ups, extra lifes, and so much more. As you progress there are even more things available for you to use to build your levels. Once you finish your level you can go back to the beginning and play it! My kids have been making levels for eachother to play, and they've been having an absolute blast with it. They will make levels and challenge eachother to beat their levels. In this game you can also make levels and put them up for other players around the world to play, if you are connected to the internet with your WiiU. This is a really neat and fun aspect of this game as well. So, also you can go in and play other levels that people all around the world have made and put up for you to play! This is really neat, to see levels from people across the globe built. Everyone has such neat and creative one of a kind ideas, and you can literally never ever run out of things to play! This game is worth the money and more, we have had so much fun playing this game as a family, and it's made our kids so happy, and I secretly LOVE the original Mario so I've been having a blast with it as well :) Super happy with this purchase, and of course it came super fast and right on my doorstep through Amazon.

Fun but feels very incomplete
I initially bought this a few days after launch with strong anticipation I'd be able to play make my very own Mario game. And to my surprise it did let me create my own levels that make me feel like your traversing in a Mario game but there's still some things that were missing. For starters it lets you create over 100-200 stages for you to share with other people online. People can comment, criticize or give you feedback on your uploaded level. There is a ranking system that is supposed to insure quality stages get rated up to insure a steady flow of quality over quantity. This has led to some mixed results: some of the stages online are indeed creative, fun, and challenging, and the others are dull, boring, or you don't have to do anything at all. Don't know how those stages get ranked but there there for people to "play." Then you have the 100-Mario challenge, which allows you to unlock various characters in the form of "Amiibo Costumes." Seems ideal to have something to unlock for passing through the 100-Mario challenge but that's the thing, the online user created stages/levels randomly chosen for the challenge are mostly a chore to go through as they either don't provide a challenge or are just straight out unfun. And so far, the Amiibo costumes I unlocked have been nothing but Animal Crossing characters, making the "100-Mario Challenge" a chore to do. And the Amiibo costumes themselves feel very underwhelming as they are only limited in the nostalgic NES 8-bit style and are only treated as power-ups for Mario rather than actually replacing Mario as a character for the duration of the level. Amiibos would have been great, fantastic even, if they were available in the others styles, at least 3D. Mario Maker could have been Nintendo's answer to Skylanders but sadly it isn't. There are just there as some little bonus like there are in various other compatible Nintendo games. Were the Mario Maker focused in one style rather than multiple, I'm sure Nintendo would have incorporated Amiibo more properly and even more features I have yet to mention that are missing. Probably the best part of the Mario Maker is in regards to making the stages. In my opinion, I had more fun making my own levels than I did playing those of others online. But that's the thing, I feel like Mario Maker could have been more than that. Where's the world map? What happened to slopes? More enemies, stage textiles, obstacles. I feel like the Mario Maker is missing a lot of content for being one of the Wii U's highlighted titles. Perhaps with DLC this could be remedied but knowing Nintendo's pace of doing things, it'll take a while before we get content for this game. And if we do, it better be free because for being a $60 dollar game, it feels very underwhelming. I'd place the Mario Maker in the $20-30 range for now. I feel like returning this game already but I'll hold on to it for now. I just hope Nintendo updates this game more with free dlc and maybe then, I'll reconsider my review but until then, if you are thinking of buying the Mario Maker hold off on it until it gets updated.

Love this game!
I have been playing Mario platform games since I was eight years old. When I heard about this game coming out, it sounded too good to be true. Design your own Mario Worlds? Yes, please!! Usually there is a lot of hype surrounding the release of Mario games but surprisingly, I did not hear anything or see advertisements for this game. I was intrigued by the concept of designing your own worlds but was concerned with the logistics of how it would all work and if it would be enjoyable. When we received the game, I was shocked at how fun this game was! It went WAY beyond exceeding my expectation. My daughter and I played it for days and we would say things like, "this game is great but I wish we could add in Bowser, or shoot fire, ect". By a week of playing we realized that all of these additions are given to you as you unlock and play for a certain amount of time. We now have everything unlocked and honestly, this game makes me feel like a kid again. It is so much fun (and very easy) designing worlds and challenging family members. My daughters do not usually all sit around playing games together anymore (they range in age 3-17). With Super Mario Maker they do. My oldest daughter has Williams Syndrome and she loves this game. The older girls love designing worlds that my three year old can play and succeed at (a world full of coins). My husband and I have challenged each other and built almost impossible worlds to see who could beat who's world first. This game is one of the only games in a long time that we have sat down and enjoyed as a family. We have already logged in hours and hours playing. In addition to all the incredibly cool worlds you can make, you can take your worlds online for others to play. You can also play online worlds other people have posted. I love this game and would consider this one of my favorite games I have ever played. Every time my 11 year old has a sleep over, the girls all want to play this! Hands down best game purchase I have ever made!

Another Great Mario
Despite everybody criticizing Mario constantly for being the exact same thing over and over, I never get tired of it. I'm now happier than ever that I get to never get tired of people-made Mario courses, since I have little interest in actually creating my own. A few times I was surfing through the Expert level selection, looked at my clock, and 3 hours had passed. Nintendo never ceases to amaze me sometimes. As for the game itself it's easy to navigate, and it comes with a great full-color booklet of ideas for levels and one of the coolest game boxes that I've seen in a very long time. I wish all game boxes were cardboard again but that's over the top wishful thinking. If you also aren't into level creating you can choose 10 man Mario challenge where you're given 10 lives and a series of Nintendo-made courses to complete. This ends rather quickly, so then you can move onto the 100 man Mario challenge which, instead of Nintendo courses, has you play through random people-made courses. I have yet to finish an expert mode 100 man Mario challenge. The difficulty of most of the levels I would say is rather low, even on the Expert listings. There are some that make me wonder how on earth the creator beat them, as the level designer must finish their own level before it's uploaded, but there will always be people better than me at Mario. You can favorite levels, comment on them, and even leave Miiverse notes that end up getting extremely obnoxious on the popular levels but are too funny for me to turn off. One major annoyance I did notice is that you have to wait around a week to fully unlock all the level making items. When you play around during a day a notification will let you know that new pieces are coming tomorrow, and when you play again tomorrow the process repeats until everything is unlocked. It's easy to get around this by changing your Wii U time but I would rather everything be unlocked from the start, there's no reason to make us wait. If you wanted to make real Mario levels then there's no reason not to get this game, it's great and will be great for years to come.

Exvelente juego

Awesome game
This is much more than a game but rather a chance to become a video game creator. The best part - there aren’t any limitations - your imagination makes me the possibilities endless. There are also pre - made courses to play. You can also share your courses online for others to try and likewise you can try courses developed by other gamers from around the world. You can also use Amiibos to enhance your courses. This can be played by all ages and all levels of experience.
