Faithful Adaptation of the Movie
Great adaptation of the Dawn...movie. It was a action-packed, quick read. As good, if not better than the movie in some regards. It was written well, but perhaps, not as well as some of the other non-movie stories in the Apes series.

Excellent Novelization of the Film- Gives Extra Insight
I have really enjoyed the new Apes films. Having read the excellent Dawn of the Apes Firestorm prequel book, (this wonderful novel covers the events right after Rise and before Dawn) I looked forward to this book. I saw the Film first, since the book was not released until several days after the film. While the Film was fabulous, (Andy Serkis was truly incredible), some things seemed to be missing from the Film. Other reviewed have noted that scenes in the trailer were not in the theatrical cut of the film. This novel follows the Film, but also gives additional insight into the major players that in some cases was missing from the film. In particular for me the character of Dreyfus, introduced in the Firestorm book, does not come across as one dimensional as he was in the film. I'm guessing some of his storyline was cut. The character of Malcolm was also more fully explained than in the film. Although the Film is powerful, this novel gives a more comprehensive picture of what was happening and why. The author does a wonderful job of characterization and handles the dramatic developments well. It definitely kept my interest. If you haven't already seen the film, I recommend reading the book first, as it will be easier to follow the events of the film. I plan on getting the audio book as well. A definite must read, along with the prequel for fans of the film. I wonder why we don't have a novelization of the first film?

Absolutely wonderful!
For any fan of the new trilogy this is a must read! Not only did it write out the movie, but added so many little details and new scenes that make the characters so much more human and the plot even deeper. Characters like Malcolm and Ellie are given more characterization that is relatable, and the character thoughts of Blue Eyes, Caesar and Koba make them even more human and enjoyable — if that’s possible for such wonderful characters. And if you’re worried about connected to the in-between books of Firestorm and Revelations, don’t worry, there were a few callbacks and set ups for both.My only issue was the ignoring off Rocket and replacing his big scenes with Koba when both are equal in relation to Caesar and helping him grow.

A solid presentation of the middle story of the trilogy (Rise - Dawn - War)
The authorized novelization of the 2014 movie. Ten years after the Simian Flu that ended human civilization, the group of chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans that escaped from San Francisco just before the pandemic have successfully started a colony. The few human survivors have regrouped in the ruins of San Francisco, reclaimed by nature, and begin to spread out again. The two meet. Neither the apes under Caesar nor the humans under Dreyfus and Malcolm want trouble, but Caesar's lieutenant, the treacherous chimpanzee Koba, and the trigger-happy human Carver start a new war between them. The story is resolved, but the ending sets up the concluding War for the Planet of the Apes.A good story, but it should have been told with less third-person narration and more character dialogue to give it more life.

Fine job of fleshing out the movie, as well as giving us the ORIGINAL ending!
I just finished the novelization of "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" tonight, and highly recommend it. Not only does it flesh out motivations and thoughts for each character, giving me a richer understanding behind certain plot developments in the movie, but it also has quite a different ending than the movie - what I suspect was the *original* ending, before director Matt Reeves decided to change it so as not to "box himself in" for where the next movie could go. And I'm not just talking about the tag with the warship which was cut from the film (which is indeed here), but also the preceding scenes both between Malcolm and Dreyfus, which plays out differently than the movie - and the final scene between Malcolm and Caesar - also quite different in tone and ending! Great writing job by Alex Irvine - I highly recommend reading it after you've seen the movie, just to get a glimpse of how the film was originally plotted out.

Missing the beginning!
This was a good book but now even more than ever I would like to read about rise of the planet of the apes but there seems to be no official novelization for the "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" or any book that tells about the apes beginnings. This feels like I started reading from the middle of a book. If anyone knows of a book that tells the beginning or even more on Ceasar and his beginning please let me know.

Good read overall
Good read overall. Once I started reading book I didn't want to stop reading. Only thing that I started to get bored was the ending. Wish there was more to the ending. I haven't seen the movie yet but would like to see it. Book overall , I give it a 4. Ending could be better but still the book kept me reading on. I would read another book from this Author.

Good read
This is the same exact narrative as the movie, but it gives you more detail in terms of who the characters are, what they're thinking, and why they do what they do in the story. The book is well-written, enjoyable, and keeps you reading. I finished it in about a week.

Great Read!
Bought for my son who absolutely loved the film. He saw the film, read the book, then saw the film again and said it was even better after reading the book! My hubby has now started reading the book and he NEVER reads anything, apart from the back pages of a newspaper :)
