Don't get your usual size if you're in the UK!
I'm 6'1 and 220lbs in decent shape and the medium fits me perfectly. Usually I order large or XL depending on where from. The material is fantastic and very rugged. Love the lining inside and the secret pockets. Feels like it's built to last. The value for money is definitely there. Nice and warm, not too heavy to wear either.

Rugged, well made
Really like this jacket, rugged and well made. It arrives looking like the product pictures - a thick, lined canvas in a solid brown colour that does not look worn in (more on that below). The sizing is likely to be the biggest question for those of us who don't live near enough to a Carhartt seller to try on in person. I'd say it depends on how you want to wear it. If you plan to have layers or a hoodie underneath, or prefer a looser fit, or more room at the waist, then default to your normal size. If you plan to wear it over a t-shirt, or prefer it more fitted, then try a size down.It is lined, so one other thing to be aware of is that this can make the armholes feel tighter than they actually are, but it will break in and also the shoulder/back is articulated for freedom of movement.I sized down from M to S (I'm usually a 38-40" chest) and found it fitted very well over a regular cotton shirt. But I thought I'd get a head start on breaking it in by washing it. Although I used a cold wash, there was still a little shrinkage, so that's something to bear in mind as well. It still fits, but if I had my time again I think I'd have let it age naturally.I actually like that the back is longer than the front, as I cycle, and off the bike it's still very comfortable and doesn't interfere with sitting.

Authentic and reliable jacket
If you have so many doubts like me, just buy it. The only problem will be about the size and color u wanted. If you are not going to use for work, I suggest u buy the black one as it is more low profile. I sadly have to return size L as it is big for me.

Great quality, strange fit...
Firstly, no complaints about the quality of the jacket, and to say it seems durable is an understatement, I think this jacket would last forever! Before purchasing, I looked at the table and saw that most people said it was true to size, so went for an XL.If I were to wear this jacket with just a t- shirt, it would be way too loose, but as it's a winter jacket, I'll be wearing layers with it, so it'll be fine. If you do intend to wear it with just a t-shirt or similar, then consider a size smaller, BUT(!), if you have a fair sized belly, I don't know if the smaller size would accommodate that. Also, the arms are long, I think I have normal length arms, but the sleeves are long, but again with a pair of gloves on, they'll be fine, and I'm sure they'll ride up with wear(as Mr Humphrey's might say!).Finally, it's a shame the waist doesn't have a cinch cord or similar to adjust the waist, as the waist size on the XL is generous.Overall, a lovely jacket, and well worth the money. A shame Amazon don't stock the matching hood.

Classic work wear.
Love my Carhartt Detroit duck jacket. Happy to spend a bit more on items that only improve with age as this jacket surely will. I’m a slim 6ft and originally had a medium which I liked but wasn’t quite right, these jackets were designed to be loose fitting so you can work comfortably in but I prefer a more fitted look so went down a size and much prefer it. Colour will fade a little over time with washing etc but that adds to the character. Sleeves are long but that isn’t an issue with the adjustable cuff. Unless you’re going to be working up some body heat in this jacket in winter, you would need need to layer up. Ideal as a spring/autumn jacket. Tiny bit stiff when new but can’t wait to wear it loads which will soften and add character.

Great quality and perfect fit
I am quite slim, 177cm tall, 69Kg with an 38.5" chest, so I hoped the Small would have been a good fit and in fact, it even exceeded my expectations. The jacket looks almost tailored on me with still room for moderate layering (it is not warm enough for winter). The jacket is luckily slightly longer than expected since the waist sits at mid-zip covering my jeans front pockets, the intelligent drop hem at the back covers my butt when, for example, cycling. The sleeves are comfortably long and black-quilt lined. The jacket itself looks very good quality, well made (YKK zips..) and certainly durable, I don't care if it's not exactly like the one in that movie etc. I think that for £100 this jacket is a great value.

Quality.
Size down. It's my advice and I take a L but in Carhartt I buy M. The jacket is hardcore tough and fits me perfectly. Ease of movement is fantastic. Length and cut and pocket placement is spot on. Warmth factor isn't that good which surprised me, but pleasantly. Just wear a thermal base layer and you are rocking it. Jacket begs to be worn in so wear the hell out of it and make it yours. Original Carhartt brown. I absolutely love the thing.
