Makes cleaner easier and gets the job done

This steamer, when it works, is simply astonishing. We have granite floors almost all over the house, and we desperately needed something just like this. On smooth stone, it is a dream, glides beautifully and cleans better than anything I've ever seen before. I really had trouble deciding how many stars. When it works, amazing! But I know how flimsy it is, because I had to return the first one.This is the 2nd unit from Amazon. 20 minutes after receiving the first unit, when I assembled it, then removed the detachable part for the first time, to test the attachments, would not stick back on the unit. Nothing we did would make it latch again to the body part of the stick. We did not apply undue pressure, nor was the part broken, it simply didn't seem to clip in the correct spot. I returned it to Amazon and bought a replacement, which works incredibly well on the floor.The fact that we had that problem tells me that the item is simply not durable or well made. The 4 stars is because frankly, IF it makes it through steam cleaning my entire house just ONCE, it's cheaper than hiring a floor finisher for a single day, and I think/hope it will. Also, being able to deep clean the floor myself tells me it's really clean, and I can do it at my own pace. Any use beyond a single whole house floor deep cleaning is a bonus.One of the reasons I wanted this model in particular was for the window steaming squeegee. Unfortunately, I have to say that that part doesn't work well. It does steam, and it does squeegee, but it's very awkward, and very very wet. For an outdoor window, it would probably work to clean off dust and grime, but then you have a reach problem, unless your window tops are within reach (none of mine are, they are all taller than me outside).If it didn't steam as well as it actually does, I'd have given it 2 stars... but you know, when it works, it's a marvel. Incredibly easy to use, very balanced so you don't get tired, and I'd even say FUN to steam mop.I figure the water boiling element inside must resemble one of those instant teapots you plug in. They burn out if you let them dry out, so I am doing only small sections of the floor at a time. The thing about granite floors is that sweeping is generally enough, and stains are not visible, so we haven't deep cleaned it in, well, years. A whole house cleaning will take some time.Of course, I hope it lasts longer, but I won't complain if it doesn't. I will come back and drop the stars if it can't even make it through 1 cleaning 1 time. I know, I don't sound confident in the product, but hey, I had to return the first one, and I never even got to use it. I'll edit if I need to.

I adored this machine - until it stopped working 2+months after delivery & I received no help in fixing it.I believe I treated it well: ran it 3 times a week (however I did not use the fresh scent pads as I have animals & am afraid the fumes could be toxic to them - I am not stating Bissell has said this but I try to use all natural non toxic oils or just water when cleaning, as heavy chemicals can gunk up mechanics of certain appliances & is not bio friendly - just wanted to make that clear).I gave it the distilled/filtered water it claimed to need but also gave it cool down periods when doing the whole house (average to small size home) as the plastic (surrounding the heating unit) would be uncomfortably warm/hot - (This was never advised to do, but it made sense to do so). I only had the steam cleaner from Aug 22nd (delivery date) & the day the heating unit stopped was within the first week of November.I searched for every possible solution, made all phone calls to support, tech support, general support, ANY possible support I could get but they all gave the same recycled "answers" which you can find online.* * * It's important to know that even tho you may have a Bissell fixer near you, please know that they can only fix the "plastic parts" (as was told to me) "not anything that has to do with the electric devices."* * * Also, although I was not told this & it was not included in any information with my steam mop, when I attempted to return or have the device sent to bissell to be fixed they claimed you must have the exact box you received it in for them to accept returns or validate warranties.Receipts of purchase & payment & model numbers of the exact Bissell unit was not enough... I am so deeply disappointed.Perhaps I acquired a defective steam mop, (unknowingly refurbished or something ?) & it is not Bissell nor the sellers fault but someone must take responsibility.The price paid for it, while lower than other steam mops was nice, does not justify the money spent for such short working time nor the atrocious support from the seller to Bissell itself.
