This is a GREAT knife!
I was in need of a good serrated edge knife but also wanted to get an offset handle and the Mbercer Culinary knives kept coming up in my searches. I can't sing the praises enough about using an offset handle especially after having one of those "As seen on TV" Ginsu knives that I used for years. :) This one is SO much better. I love the grippy handle. It feels solid and stable in my hand, and I can make fairly precise cuts through vegetables and meats. But where this knife shines is in making thin cuts through crusty bread. I'm an amateur artisan bread maker and having a knife that easily cuts through crusty bread is essential. And at the price point it's at, I won't feel bad if it gets damaged. I'll just get a new one, though it feels well-built and sturdy enough to last for quite awhile. And as long as I maintain the blade (I have the correct sharpening tools), I do see having to another one anytime soon.

Multi-purpose, but looks like an offset bread knife
The knife arrives sharp, very sharp. It does look like a bread slicer, but you'll find it's perfect for much more. Really, it made cutting apart a whole raw turkey very easy. I did not expect that it would be a "go-to" knife, but it is. I have more quality knives than any home cook should have; from Gobal to Solingen, but I'm reaching more and more for this Mercer offset, which would be cheap at three times Amazon's price.

Very strong and sharp blade, offset handle design, and affordable. Sold!
Overkill on the blade materials, this thing is sharp. The wavy edge blade is just right for breads, and I remember it being advertised as a bread knife. But it makes a terrific cake knife, which is what I use it for. The handle feels cheap, but it is doing it’s job nicely. The offset handle design helps when cutting through a cake, as my hand does not hit the table when I am cutting.

Best bread knife I've owned.
I really like this bread knife. It's sharp and cuts well. It's comfortable to hold. The offset blade makes it easy to use.

Comfortable to hold, cuts well
I got this to cut through paninis where a sawing motion will wreck the sandwich. I have a long bread knife that did pretty well except I hit my knuckles. I wanted a shorter knife and ordered this only to find it was just as long (my fault! The size is stated clearly and is accurate), I decided to try this any way and it does a great job. I am able to cut through the crusty panini with a minimal amount of sawing and once I'm through the crust I can cut straight down without making a mess of the sandwich an no knuckles on the counter. I have used it to cut other things like cutting a whole melon in half (good thing it's long for that). It is easy to clean and feels like it will hold up well. I have a few 'fancy' knives wit this is my third one with the plastic commercial kitchen type handle. The oldest I have is over 15 years old and is still one of my most used knives. They don't look impressive in a knife block on the counter (ESP the white handles) but they get the job done. I suspect a real chef or knife connoisseur could tell you why youneedto spend >$100 on a knife but for the general amateur cooking I do this is a great knife!

It seems to have the same blade as the black handled one at a lower cost
I had the black handled version and love it but I wanted a second one for picnics and my RV so I thought I would give this one a try. The blade is the same but the difference is the handle is harder and a bit more slippery. For everyday use I would pick the black handled version as it is not that much more but for occasional use this one is a great value. Both are my go to knife for bagels, bread, tomatoes etc.

Love it
Love it! I have made a few loafs of sourdough and it was nearly impossible to cut with my regular bread knife. This knife glides right through it like butter.

A very good bread knife. The offset makes it easy to cut right down a loaf of bread.

Was undecided between the 6" offset vs this 8" offset. Glad I chose the longer one as a replacement to my very old freebie 10" because it's not too short to still slice bigger free form artisan loafs while being more compact and practical and yet still practical for frequent smaller jobs like sandwiches, rolls and bagels. Needless to say, it slices through crusty and soft breads excellently and the slight offset is sufficient to avoid knuckle knocks. At 127g (4.5oz), it's lightweight yet has enough heft and thickness to feel well made and not flimsy. I haven't had this long enough to comment on durability but so far, am liking it a lot. Wish there a black option as that would obviously stand up better to discolouration, marks and nicks. This knife does come with a clear soft thin plastic blade cover. The black knife guard pictured was a separate purchase.

Very sharp and handy for kitchen work

Seems to be a decent knife. But there are some dings on the knife surface. Not sure if they are from the manufacturer or transportation. First time seeing this on a brand new knife.

Very sharp, perfect to cut bread and tomatoes with. For the price of this item you're getting a great deal. Only thing I would have different is an inch of two longer blade. Happy with my purchase
