Alpaca Pati's Fancy Fleece

Beautiful book for children!
Beautiful book with a cute story kids will love. Pati the Alpaca is upset because she doesn't think she will look pretty anymore once her fur is taken to make the coats and things for locals. It's a good story about how beauty is more than just looks, while also educating children to the animal and life in the Andes.

An endearing message of giving to others.
This book is beautifully written and illustrated, but it is the message that made me fall in love with this book. We all want to put our best food forward on the outside, but what is on the inside is what makes you, you, and so important. The book teaches children about having a giving heart, thinking of others, and helping your community. However, it does it in a subtle way all while words flowing and rhyming, illustrations capturing your heart like you are in Peru, and learning some Spanish throughout. At one point in the book where Alpaca Pati gives up her fur, and can no longer wear her accessories, like her pretty bows, my son gasped. Then when we read further that Pati did this so the villagers could be warm in the winter, my 7 year old happily said "now they can play in the snow, they have coats." This endearing message is a good teaching tool for children and introduces children to another language. Spanish words are immersed throughout and in today's world it is important that we teach children to respect and learn about other cultures. Loved it! A wonderful read that never gets old, just ask my son who grabs it several times a week!

Alpaca Pati's Fancy Fleece
The story follows a young alpaca from Peru named Pati who loves to adorn herself with ribbons and bows. She often would look at her reflection and think about how beautiful she was. One day she realizes that her beautiful fleece will be sheered and given to the villagers. At first, Pati is devastated with the news. It isn't until she realizes how much her fleece will help the people that Pati has a true change of heart. Tracey Kyle has beautifully woven a story with the theme that is being better to give than to receive. She also shows readers that true beauty comes from the insides and not the outsides. The Spanish words sprinkled within the text are a nice addition to the story. The rhyming scheme allows readers to follow along easily with the story. The illustrations by Yoss Sanchez are filled with warm and bright colors. The details on each page draw the readers into the culture and tradition of Peru. The back of the book has a glossary page, as well as a list of facts about alpacas. This is a terrific story to tie in any social and emotional theme of generosity and sharing.
