It's Edible Rice Paper, People, and it's Delicious
To the people writing these are old and hard and you can't even remove the paper from them, it's edible rice paper on the bottom. The only paper you remove is the paper "ribbon" that protects the edge, not the bottom.Aside from that, this is delicious. I ordered in December 2023 and again in February 2024, but I'm not sure if there would be a decline in quality the farther you got away from Christmas.Still delicious, and it's SUPPOSED to be dense and chewy. Dense and chewy is not "hard."You can make this yourself easily, but it's very clear so many of these negative reviews are by people who don't know what this product is supposed to be like and that the "paper" is edible. It's dense and chewy, just as it's supposed to be, and though it's less expensive than a couple other brands, there's no loss in quality. It could be just a tad less sweet for my taste. That's my only criticism. Most of that extra sweetness comes from the powdered sugar sprinkled on the top.The company SHOULD mention it's edible rice paper on the packaging, but the packaging is in Italian and this is imported but made for an Italian audience who likely already knows.Highly recommended. It's satisfyingly dense and chewy, and the flavor is sweet and citrusy on one hand, but there's a lot more going on with the flavor overall than just the citrus notes. It's also inside the box in a sealed heavy foil wrapper to keep it fresh. Again, these are not "hard." They are dense. Just like they're supposed to be.I actually prefer the Marabissi brand panforte just a little because it's generally a little bit less sweet, but it's also generally about $5 more for essentially the same thing. You can also get a paper towel and brush excess sprinkled powdered sugar off the top before consuming, so you can customize this to your personal taste.I'm not a fan of pannetone no matter who makes it, but panforte can be addictive.I was first turned onto it at The Fatted Calf in the Napa Valley (where they sell the Marabissi brand around Christmas time), and since that first one I've been enjoying this (and sometimes craving it) for years.

Like Christmas in July!
Where to begin on this one... First of all, after ordering, the Seller (meDINEterranean) reached out immediately to let me know: 1) that the packaging on this order has changed; and 2) since this was July, and this food is typically a seasonal Christmas item, they were near the end of their "last year's stock", and although still very edible, they wanted to make me aware this was made prior to December the previous year. Still I thought it was incredibly considerate and professional to let me know this up front, giving me the option to cancel. Well, due to this kind service, there was no way I was going to cancel the order.I couldn't wait to try this traditional Italian cake! It smelled all spicy, sweet and delicious. When I took my first bite, a voice in my head screamed, "Wait! This needs to have some espresso to go with it!" So, I stopped and quickly brewed some espresso for the full experience. My first experience had to be just right!Like many have realized, the cake is very dense, has candied fruit in it, and a little different from what we Americans are used to. (I warmed it up slightly to soften it a little) Regardless, it was delicious... from the powdered sugar on top, down to the rice paper on the bottom! I will definitely order a couple for the upcoming holidays. Thanks meDINEterranean! You are a great company!! (And your personal note on top of the cake was very kind!)

So Delicious! Just Like I Remember!
I bought a few packages of this brand; SAPORI SIENA PANFORTE MARGHERITA - 12.35OZI have eaten these Panforte since I was a child. The Margherita version is my favorite! My grandma used to bring them to us when she visited every Christmas. I have loved them ever since, but they have not always been easy to find in the US.It seems that the size has slowly gotten smaller, but maybe it is because I got bigger? Anyway these are just as delicious as I remember. On the top of the panforte, the white stuff is not mold, it is a powdered sugar.AND, for goodness sake, do peel the paper off around the edge of the panforte.BUT, DO NOT remove the papery white stuff on the bottom of the panforte because that is totally edible! It's sort of like a Holy Wafer at Communion! I actually used to love to peel it and eat it 1st when I was a kid, and I still do it now.ENJOY!

Good product, but very small.
While this panforte margherita is the dense, chewy, delicious treat I expected, it is very small. It is a circle approximately 5 1/2 inches across and 3/4 inch thick.

Best pan forte EVER!
Sapori’s panforte tastes like the Christmases of my childhood. Wonderful flavor combination, the dried fruit is moist, the almonds are fresh crunchy, the texture is perfect, and we will definitely be buying more of Sapori’s Siena Panforte! Great bakery- they notified me when they were concerned the Best By date might be too soon (it was a month away) in case I wanted to wait for their next batch. I appreciated that, but no problem, I knew we’d finish it in plenty of time.

Messy and sticky
Received this item. Opened the package and it appears that the candy has a thin paper on the back which is next to impossible to remove. EXTREMELY sweet. It sent my sugar meter into outer space! Can't return it so a waste of 40.00. Sent it to the garbage. It had a pleasant nutty taste.
