very sturdy easy to install
This is a great whole home water filter I live in central Florida the water smells like pond water and for the most part not drinkable. I read all the reviews on other filters and chose this one easy to install and has made my water fresh smelling and drinkable using the carbon filter. I like this filter so much I have purchased another filter that I will be installing so I also will have a filter to remove sediment Yes I will have to replumb my system to add another filter so now I will have 2 filters 1 for sediment 1 carbon for removing smell and taste something that I should have installed in the first place a lesson learned on my part. Another great point is the inlet and outlet ports are steel not plastic so with teflon tape no leaks at the filter I must state I am not a plumber and I installed this system without any problems great product with excellent water quality results. I have also purchased replacement O ring gaskets and food grade lube to use on the O rings and the filter bowl both at Amazon.

White seal material breaks free causing water softener to malfunction - Twice
I purchased a Premier whole house water filter and it worked well for a while but one day I realized that my water softener, which is just downstream of the filter, malfunctioned. It turned out that a bit of white seal material had broken free from the Premier filter valve and was blocking an orifice in the water softener so the water softener couldn't backflush or rinse the media. This happened shortly after the filter could no longer be removed from the Premier housing when it was in Shut-Off or Bypass because water would spray all over the place when the filter housing was removed. Clearly, the white material was from a seal in the Premier's valve causing both problems. To shut the Premier off without leaking, I had to turn off a valve upstream from the Premier filter. I figured that was just a fluke so I ordered a new Premier whole house filter. Within 6 months or so, I encountered the same problem with the new Premier filter. That is, it once again leaked (actually sprayed water) when the housing was removed to replace the filter when in Off or Bypass so I had to use the upstream valve to cut off water to the filter. Then, like with the first Premier, my water softener failed again for the same reason as before. That is, a bit of white rubber or silicone had broken free from the Premier valve and blocked and orifice in the water softener. One more thing: I don't know why Premier discontinued these whole house filter housings with a clear cannister. We have well water and depending on the water usage or the fact that sometimes my well spits up more sediment that usual, I have to determine when to change the filter based on a visual check of the filter which is easy with a clear filter housing. All I have to do is glance at the Premier to determine if it's time to replace the filter. With the (now) opaque white filter housing, I would have to remove the filter housing to inspect the filter regularly until I found it needed to be replaced. I can't go by rule of thumb time periods on when to change the filter - say 3 months. However, I used the clear filter housing from the first Premier. Of course, I couldn't do that if I hadn't saved the clear filter housing from the first Premier.UPDATE: I contacted Premier through their website explaining the problem. They never bothered to respond.Update 2: I contacted Premier again through their customer service form on their website and sent them my Amazon review (above.) They still didn't bother to respond, let alone solve the issue. In my opinion, it appears they simply don't care about their customers. Not only were TWO of these filters defective in the same exact way that caused my water softener to malfunction but the company doesn't doesn't respond at all to customers who report defects in their products. This is not a good sign and, unless they finally do contact me and resolve the issue, I will not deal with them again and I definitely cannot recommend their products.

Nice filter, hope it holds up better then the last one.
Works as advertised. This one replaced the same unit from about 8 years ago that the casing exploded and flooded my basement. They has seemed to have changed the design as it is no longer clear, but white. Hope this one holds up and no accidents.

well made filter
I replaced an old whole house filter with this one. Very well made and sturdy, really like that it comes with the wrench to unscrew the housing. My old one didn't and I had to use an oil filter wrench. This one can hang nearby and is handy. I installed it with ball valves on each side to isolate it during filter changes, but you don't have to since you should be able to turn the filter to bypass and change the filter without shutting the water off. The threads are stainless steel and not plastic and the unit is robust overall and should last a long time.

Average filter
I dislike that the rubber gasket falls out every time I have to change filters. I also dislike that the filter housing is solid white plastic instead of being see through. Now I change filter by date instead of just by looking through a clear housing. When my water pressure drops I also know the filter is mostly plugged. It is fairly easy to turn the filter valve from on to off to by pass. The big plastic wrench that comes with the filter has to be used correctly or it will slip off. I had not problems whenever I had to change the filter in this. I
