Shirley Trevena’s Watercolors
This is another wonderful book written and illustrated by Shirley Trevena. It is a great addition to her other books. I enjoy studying her techniques and thought process. Wonderful addition to my library.

Fabulous color combinations
Shirley Trevena is probably my favorite artist, second only to Tiffany. What she does with colors is out of this world. Monet layered colors in a beautiful way, but what you see in some of her work is almost like two color schemes in one painting; as the colors change dominance from left to right. I can understand why some readers wish she provided more instruction, but in this book she talks about seeing an old painting in a friend's home and having difficulty imagining how she dared to put paint down in that way. I was happy to read that, as l heard once that when you find your perfect medium, you will remember everything about it. I think if you study her work, you will soon see why you like this painting over that one; the subjects are more detailed, perhaps, or hidden, as she loves to do. The ones I like the most are a riot of translucent color, a mixture of perspectives, and colors put together in unusual ways. Beautiful! Beautiful!

Fabulous artist
Shirley shares her unique methods and visions for her art with beautiful photos and descriptions of how she is inspired and translates that on paper. This is also a review from her early works and progression through more current. All written by the artist herself.

Her best book
For those looking for an instructional format, I would describe this book as an 'idea' book for painters at the intermediate level and above.Shirley Trevena's painting techniques have expanded my view of what watercolor can do. I have all her books and dvds, but love this book because it has close-ups which really show off her techniques. I don't want to copy her style rather I work to springboard off her techniques and develop my own style. I also appreciate the wonderful printing which showcases her use of color that is not as strongly apparent in her other books. What I have also noticed is that she has excellent techniques in drawing which should not be underestimated. Shirley Trevena is a truly original artist.

Disappointed!
It’s a nice book if you like to look at her art, but she doesn’t share her techniques so you won’t lern anything.I wouldn’t buy the book again, I can Google her work and see it for free.

I'm going to enjoy this
Thank you--I will enjoy this--I have several of Shirley Trevena's books, and she is inspirational the way she describes her process of creativity. I love that she uses lots of different things to get her creative juices flowing. Book's in good condition and it arrived very quickly--thank you!

I love all Shirley's books but especially like this one
I purchased this book for myself when it first came out, and just bought another as a gift for a friend. I love all Shirley's books but especially like this one. Whenever I open it and start turning the pages it is like visiting a favorite gallery. As several people mentioned this is not a "how-to" book, but it's impossible to look at her amazing paintings and not learn something.

More Ideas From Shirley Trevena
As I already have Shirley Trevena's previous three books I soon realised that I had seen all or most of the pictures before. However I found it interesting reading her snippets of information.I love her style of working and find it inspirational.

Shirley Trevena Watercolours.
Shirley Trevena is a hugely popular artist, not least because of her excellent guides to watercolour painting which I – and many other painting tutors – ruthlessly pillage for examples and information when teaching our own classes. This is a very nicely presented collection of her watercolour work; a hardback binding in a blue-grey silk cover with a tipped-in image of one of her paintings – which is also included inside as a frameable print. The book provides over 100 good sized colour illustrations with some older work, but mainly paintings current in the last few years. Trevena provides a commentary for the work, but this isn`t one of her how-to books; there is some biographical information which isn`t particularly revealing and there are no opinions from tiresome academics, but it does provide an uninterrupted visual discourse on her work and techniques, which I certainly appreciate.A book any (adventurous) watercolourist should enjoy; NOT an instruction book – so don`t say you weren't told – but a fine and inspiring volume to look through.

Evolution of a painting style
This is a lovely Shirley Trevena book, full of beautiful paintings. It is not an instructional book, but is more of an illustrated evolution of Shirley Trevena's painting style.Unfortunately the picture on the front of the book is peeling off, I keep smoothing it down, but it just peels off again. I think Batsford should use a different glue! I would be very interested to hear any comment Batsford makes in this regard.
