Effective Product - Fun to Install (REALLY!!)
Installing this insulator jacket kit was actually a fun project. Turned on some tunes, rolled up my sleeves and enjoyed equipping my gas hot water heater to better withstand winter temps in the garage. (Full Disclosure: OK, so it doesn’t get that cold in So Cal…but with natural gas bills having tripled this winter, I needed to do *something* to help out.)It seems to work. Here’s how I know.BEFORE: I used a temperature gun to measure the external temp of my tank’s original state. Measured the tank of my compressor (stored nearby). The compressor tank was more than 10 degrees cooler than the hot water tank.AFTER: I performed the same test the morning after installation. The temperature difference between the two surfaces was less than 1 degree... confirming that heat was no longer escaping!I read a review that wisely suggested cleaning the top of the tank before beginning. Although it was only about 6 months old, it had enough dust to affect adhesion of tape.As I appreciated learning from previous reviewers, here are a few tips that I thought might also be helpful to pass along:TAPE: I used blue masking tape to hold the material in place until it was time to apply the aluminum tape, which worked perfectly. The blue tape came right off without damaging the insulation. Although the kit came with installation tape, one reviewer reported receiving a batch that wasn’t very sticky; I used my own since I knew that it would adhere firmly.SCISSORS: Rather than using the (included) razor blade, I found that using scissors made the initial cuts and final trimming easier and more precise.STRAPS: I saw a review photo which showed earthquake straps installed under the insulation jacket through an opening cut into the side of the jacket. I opted to keep the straps fully on top, so that I can easily monitor buckle tightness without having to ever remove the insulation.TANK LABELS: Before installing the jacket, I took high quality photos of labels/instructions which came on the hot water tank. Printed the Diagnostic Codes and Operating Instructions and placed them near the tank. Uploading them to Google Drive also gives me immediate access to this important information…without having to remove the insulation.MUSIC: Motown jams go perfectly with this project. : -)I’m very satisfied with the product, the installation process and the results. Posting a few photos of the finished project.

Had to be pieced together for 80 gallon tank
The "jacket" came in 2 pieces. We wrapped the biggest piece first, had to cut about 3 feet off the length. We wrapped the second piece and found that there was still about a 4 inch gap between the two outer pieces, so we have to cut two pieces from the piece we cut off to fill in the gap. Cutting the top for the tank is most complicated with the pipes and pop-off valve to be cut around. We did cut two pieces and then had to cut the edges to make it circular. With both my husband and I working on it, it took us about an hour and 15 minutes to complete. We are happy that the tank will be more insulated because our garage has been getting quite cold lately. And we live in South Carolina.

Easy install, plenty of material, just a little thin
I have two water heaters and picked up a couple of these. I previously attempted the fiberglass jackets, but there just wasn't enough space to wrap two between one another and the walls. This material is really thin, but you're provided with enough that you can almost wrap twice around if wanted. The package came with enough tape and spacers. Speaking of the spacers, find someone you dislike or a child in need of punishment and have them remove the paper backing from the spacers adhesive. After installing the spacers, I measured height of the water heater (55" on my case" leaving room for the vent on floor. I then cut 16" off one side leaving me with a 56" x 9' piece. Then started running around the unit.Tip - Dust off the top of your water heater first. That way the tape used to hang it can stick properly.

Worked Great
This product worked out great. I have a 50 gallon water heater and there was more then enough to accomplish the task. I was a little confused by the instructions and emailed the company. They supplied the owner number and the Manger number which surprised me. My email was answered back immediately and I received a call to go over what was actually needed. Absolutely amazing customer service and friendly individuals. I would highly recommend doing business with them.

Made in the USA
One reason I choose this heater wrap is because it is made in the US. The quality is great. No mess like fiberglass wraps. Comes complete with tape and razor to make any cuts. It took about 5 minutes to install and looks great.
