That what was dead is now alive and kicking butt
Quick delivery which was helpful with the crazy heat wave. The compressor was not kicking on, but the fan was working fine. I keep a spare capacitor on hand as they are cheap and the usual cause of AC units not to function. However, on this case the capacitor was fine. A friend in the AC repair field told me about these hard starters and at $15 I considered it a safe bet. Easy to hook up, please search the internet for some instructions on installation. Three days now of a working AC unit without a service call!! Update 07/22/2025 Still going strong!! Buying an extra one to sit on the shelf in the garage in case anything happens in the future. Small investment for having the AC down for just a few minutes.

Be nice to your AC and buy this !
Purchased this based on a ChatGPT recommendation—helps protect your AC compressor. Durability: Worked perfectly all summer. It’s just a capacitor, so I don’t expect any issues. I’ll update if anything changes. Installation: Easy. If unsure, ask your favorite AI chatbot! they’ll guide you, and tell them I referred you so they will be nice to us both later when they concur the world 😉!

Worked perfectly for me (at least so far)
HVAC Unit stopped cooling - sounded like compressor just couldn't get going. The HVAC Company told me the compressor was locked up, and the Capacitor seemed ok, so given furnace/compressor was 25+ years old, it would ALL need to be replaced (for $12,000 to $15,000). The Tech said they COULD install a hard start capacitor that MIGHT fix the issue temporarily for $340, but as soon as they started to install it, it was paid for & no refunds. Didn't want to gamble $340 for potentially nothing, so sent them on their way (with $100 for the SVC call). I then started googling and learning about hard start capacitors. Bought this unit for $15 and installed it the next day without difficulty. Compressor started up immediately and ran fine, so this was pretty good for $15! Of course the question is how LONG will it last? No idea, but if I can get through this Summer I will be very happy, and I know some people have eked out a couple of years usage with these things. One comment: many DIY Videos fail to mention that capacitors can hold a charge AFTER the breaker panel is turned off. BE SURE to discharge existing capacitor by grounding out all the lugs with a screwdriver with an insulated handle! I knew to do that already, but I am sure some novices could get zapped otherwise.

Do. It. Yourself. (And save big bucks.)
Saved me $280 bucks (compared to HVAC quote) and installed in 5 minutes.

Its true! This thing provides the necessary kick for older compressors!
Its true! This thing provides the necessary kick for older compressors! I'm more than pleased with the AMI PARTS SPP6 Hard Start Capacitor Replacement! I was experiencing issues with my air conditioner unit, particularly during hot summer days when it would struggle to start. After installing the SPP6, I've noticed a HUGE difference. The installation process was straightforward, and the instructions provided were clear and concise. The quality of the capacitor is top-notch, and I can already feel the increased compressor torque - it's like a whole new unit! I think the SPP6 has improved the performance of my air conditioner and possibly made it more energy-efficient.

Working good
Works great. Would've given it 5 stars but the cap was loose.

Easy fix
My Florida Heat Pump (now owned by Bosch) compressor was failing to start when the system commanded it to start. It would hum for about 5 seconds and then time out. This cycle would repeat over and over, sometimes starting and sometimes the system seemed to quit trying (after about ten minutes and 50 or so failed starts of the compressor). Anyway, this piggy back capacitor is simply added in parallel to the existing capacitor and it works like a champ. Two things to note: (1) capacitors can zap you even when you've removed the 220Vac at the breaker...you must discharge the existing capacitor or you'll become the discharge path and that's gonna hurt... and (2) it's possible you just need to replace your existing capacitor and this boost is unnecessary. If your compressor is older and a capacitor swap didn't fix your problem, this is the easy button you were hoping for. As for how long this bandaid fix will last, I dunno, but, at the price of a new compressor, this thing will pay for itself in about a month or two.

Lasted 5 months
I hate to write bad reviews but just FYI... I purchased this because one of my HVAC units would give a pretty significant BUZZZZ from the breaker box when it would kick on. I called my good friend who owns an HVAC company and he recommended I first change the main capacitor, but that didn't help. He also recommended I get one of these and advised I purchase a couple because he's finding that all HVAC parts he's finding just don't last as long as they did, say, 25 years ago. So I bought 2. They're very easy to install and it did help to significantly reduce the BUZZZZ coming from the breaker box. But after just five (5) months it stopped working. I removed it and it had that telltale smell of burnt death. I then swapped in the other one I purchased and it's back to helping out. Your mileage may vary but at this price point, given the ease of install, and how it actually does seem to help, it's not a bad purchase or fix, just don't expect a long service life.
