Point 65 N Tequila! GTX Tandem Modular Kayak

My husband had been thinking about getting a kayak for a couple of years. He has had several types of inflatable single person "boats" that have worked fairly well for him as far as fly fishing and fishing in general but now we have grandchildren and when they visit they like to fish. This modular kayak is just the ticket. When alone he can fish in the single configuration. When the grandkids visit they can go too. His comment is "Why didn't I get one of these thirty years ago!?" We can haul it in the back of the pickup or in our SUV. It is light enough to carry over fences. We really love it. More Crappie for dinner! I ordered this kayak when I saw the comfort features. He loves the inflatable back rest He did have to increase the padding for the seat as he is very thin but that was no problem.

This kayak pulls to the right badly. We tried it in many different conditions - up river, down river, various current and winds conditions, still always pulls to the right. It’s very frustrating and not enjoyable. We regret this purchase.

We tried to like this kayak...twice. The first kayak came with a large bubble in the back seat that had to be pushed back into place. Then we assembled it. The buckle broke as we were tightening it. I had read the reviews and knew to go gentle on them, but they are made of plastic and break easily. We returned that boat and ordered a replacement. Got that one to the water at least. Tracking was awful!!! We were both struggling to get it to go in a straight line. Truth be told, together we are near the 400 pound weight maximum, but we had to paddle on one side almost constantly and still were pulling left. We took it out of the water and tried reattaching the sections as there appeared to be a gap in the bottom. The buckle broke...again. We ended up returning the second one, too.

I love this thing! I have used it as single and double and it works great. The ratchet system to hold the sections together makes it easy (once you realize how to do it!) as a single mom taking 2 young kids out so time/simplicity matters! Feels very stable, harder to control as a tandem but that is what you should expect with something that long and at least for me, having only one paddler. Give me a few years when one is old enough to be useful with the paddles and I'll let you know how that is. Felt very solid with 5 year old in front and 3 year old in between my legs/lap. Only taken it to two calm lakes so can't speak to more than that but I love it and bought it for that.I have a Toyota Sienna and was able to get all 3 pieces in with a kids solo kayak too but made for cramped quarters for the kiddos in back (slid seats up to the front). Will look at getting a roof rack and step stool for next year to handle one or two pieces or the two kid kayaks (whenever kid #2 can handle one on her own). Came as 3 boxes and they were big and well packed. I didn't think to inflate the back rests the first time and when I remembered to do it... wow, what a difference. Certainly not the cheapest on the market but for flexibility and convenience I am in love!

I do enjoy this kayak but very disappointed my buckles keep breaking. I have used it 6 times and have broke 3 already. And they are not cheap to replace.

Ordered this kayak only received front part mud and back were missing. Had to call Amazon no replacement available now return.

We love our kayak, whether we use it as a 2 person or 1 person. Easy to transport, put together and transport home! And storage is easy.

Had it out of the boxes and in the water in 15 minutes. Only one experience in the lake so far. Still trying to get the rowing configuration going property to keep it headed in a straight line. Husband and wife kayaking will bring out a lot of conflict if you aren't careful ;) The kayak was comfortable and very stable in the water. Easily loaded all three pieces in the back of my Expedition with lots of room to spare. Would easily fit in much smaller vehicle. Keep the plastic bags that it came in for both storage and for keeping your vehicle clean after pulling the pieces out of the lake. If this husband and wife can learn to row together, this kayak will be a lot of fun for many outings.
