Great book!
Im a 26 yr old female, born and raised in phx, and have always found planting mind boggling. Phx is so 'special' in that we plant plants at opposite times than most of the U.S., including even northern AZ, so this book has been a life saver. I like that there are lists throughout the book of what plants do well in phx (vines, annuals, bulbs, etc). I just wish is was categorized not by plant but by month, and then all the types of plants within that 'month' So the books not organized very well. And this might be asking for too much but I like my gardening books to have LOTS of pictures. While there was about 1 pic per 2 pages I feel it wasn't enough...

Good book
I like the way the chapters or sections are mapped out. Easy to use the index if your searching for a specific plant. I read it almost everyday

Well Written, Step-By-Step Desert Gardening Guide
Well written for those here in Arizona, who have a variety of desert plants. It gives month-by-month advice on things such as the care and feeding of those plants. I've found it very helpful, being a newbie in this desert environment.

Odd layout and no plant identification guides
Not real fond of the way the book is layer out; that is, by plant category. I have plants in many categories, so I have to flip back and forth between sections every month. Also, was disappointed that none of the plants in the photos are identified. Would have liked to see pictures of the plants in their sections.

What I was looking for
Here in the desert heat it can be difficult to get gardening right. Our climate differs and the timing for certain tasks is almost opposite from other locations in the USA. I found this book to be a great monthly "to do list". It has allowed me to be a little more pro-active to what needs to be done versus reactionary to try and fix something when it is too late. The books chapters are broken down into groups and then those groups are broken down on a month to month description. For example, there is a section on Annuals and it shows when to plant certain types and will give recommended groupings as well. As the seasons change the advice corresponds to the month of the year. The book does not cover every detail but does a great job to help you get orgainzed and put you on the right track.
