You don't need to be a serious athlete to appreciate this amazing device. It will enhance your workouts in ways you don't expect
For anybody that wants to be a better athlete or just get in better shape, this is your device. My old Garmin sometimes took 10 mins to locate the GPS, this one connects to the GPS from inside my house after 30 seconds. The run tracking on their new heart rate monitor is so specific it's helped my running form immensely. It even suggests a recovery time from your workouts once it knows your athletic baseline. I haven't yet downloaded apps and some of them might be very showing various data you want, but so far the customizable screens that come stock have suited me great. They also have apps you can download to change the look of the face like the Apple watch. I can't say how much I love this device. I'll be trying out the swimming band next week and I'll update my review. It's so awesome my wife was jealous and wanted her own. Thankfully Garmin just released a version with almost all the same features but my wife likes the look a little more, the Garmin Forerunner 735XT.***UPDATE*** I've since used this garmin in both pool swims and during a triathlon. The pool swim strap works well once you get used to the idea that it doesn't update until after you're out of the pool. You have to remember to set the pool lap length or the distance tracking will be way off. The reason I say it works well and not great, is that is usually under counts my lap count by 1-3 (50m-200m) each time I swim. It never overestimates which is fine by me, so it's consistent and that easy to understand. Also, the strap needs to be fairly tight to stay on while swimming and this doesn't exactly look attractive. So if you're at a public pool I've used a rash guard over top which again works for me because it blocks the UV.The regular strap under a wetsuit and during my triathlon/multisport race, was amazing. It tracks transitions with a button press at the start and end, and automatically transfers to the different sports.STILL FIVE STARS in my book.

Has some limitations for swimmers, but a great watch
This is a fantastic setup. The HR straps are both waterproof. I understand why some would need the HRM Swim, but personally I use the HRM Tri for pool swimming. I have no issue with it slipping during pool laps and it is more comfortable than the HRM Swim. The irritating part of this for lap swimmers: The smallest pool length this watch will allow you to set is 17 meters or 18 yards. My housing development has an odd size pool.. 13 meters. This watch has no issues counting laps with the 13 meter pool, but since I have to set it at 17 meters that is what it counts as the distance. All of the metrics are based on the 17 meter length. Yes, you can go into garmin connect and change the total distance after you sync, but you cannot change the data per interval. I could understand the 17 meter limit if the watch simply could not figure out the laps at any shorter distance, but fact is it does. I don't like having to use a 13 meter pool, and I would not suggest it for training, but there are alot of people who are forced to workout in a pool smaller than 17 meters. This brings me to my other issue, is the Garmin Connect website. You can do some edits to your activities, and you can manually add activities to the website, but you can't edit or add per lap or interval level data. The real plus side of this watch is that you can create your own activity profiles and there are enough apps on the garmin website that you can turn this is into a tide watch with weather forecasts.I am personally pretty hard on watches.. I do ocean and pool swimming.. so I am wondering how long this will last, but so far I love it.

Too bad you have to spend a tri-bundle to get the black/grey watch
I had the blue/black watch before I figured out you could get this black/grey version. It's too bad you have to buy the more expensive tri bundle to get the black/grey watch (the only one I really feel comfortable wearing to work since it looks more professional). For that, I take off a star. However, still an awesome watch. I like the HRM with the blue plastic casing... hoping that won't chafe like some of the others can. I have not tried the swim HRM yet.
