Required reading! I wish I had this book when my daughter was born.
Excerpt from the review on my blog [...]I have finished reading Asthma Allergies Children: A Parent's Guide. I didn't want to put it down, each time I had to tend to something. I felt like each page was giving me another piece of the puzzle, and the chapters were guiding me in the placement of the pieces, and I was starting to get a clear view of the box top, for the first time. I've been dealing with my daughter's "atopic" conditions, eczema, food allergies and asthma, for a few years, now, so some of it was "review", and I found myself agreeing with the information, but that is not as common as one might think. So often, I read "medical" literature and I think, "Sheesh, how can they have it so wrong?" Instead, as I "clicked" through the pages on my Kindle, I was nodding in agreement and even sometimes audibly saying, "YES!" Reading through the pages, I sensed the proverbial lightbulbs going off, over and over, as I learned more about the conditions that affected my sweet girl. I also found myself thinking about so many people who needed to read this book, some of whom might not even realize it...All those people whose child's always clearing their throat...or has a perpetual "runny nose"...or who has trouble focusing in school, but probably has underlying allergy issues...A wonderful thing about this book is that it doesn't exist in a vacuum. It's part of an organic, mutually-educational system. The first book I purchased was actually the eBook, Children's Allergies and Asthma: One of Nature's Dirty Tricks, which contains a selection of 89 of the 200+ articles from their website AsthmaAllergiesChildren.com. They state that "medicine moves faster than print" and they've developed what I like to call "Atopic University". With the completion of Asthma Allergies Children: A Parent's Guide, you get your "degree" and the Children's Allergies and Asthma e-book and subsequent articles on asthmaallergieschildren.com, give you your "continuing education" credits. They also have a "Parent Mailbag" section, where you can ask them questions, which I equate to my former college professors' "office hours". It's a chance to have your additional questions answered and further your education. I say it's "mutually educational" because the authors and doctors interact with readers and continue to learn from their readers/patients, just as they've done over their careers. Dr. Paul Ehrlich's book dedication reads, "I would like to dedicate this book to my patients, who have taught me so much over so many years." The website allows that learning process to continue, across a wider base. The book itself is such a valuable reference tool that after I finished reading it on the Kindle, I immediately ordered the paperback version. Yes, I loved it that much! I love the style of their writing and the way you can tell the doctors really listen to their patients and take the "whole picture" into consideration.[...]This book is packed with medical information! It covers all aspects of allergy - skin allergies, environmental allergies, food allergies, asthma, testing, treatments, etc. It also covers the emotional aspects, marital and inter-familial aspects, and the stages of an allergic life. There's even a table of medications, at the end, with the symptoms they treat, side effects and additional notes.I am grateful to the authors for sharing their wisdom and time, as well as the continued effort they put into their website. I'm so glad to have found these valuable resources and wanted to share them with you all. I hope you will find them equally valuable and enlightening.

a MUST HAVE book - for parents dealing with new diagnoses and doctors to put in their waiting room or lending library
Asthma Allergies Children: A Parent's Guide is a MUST HAVE food allergy book. If one is ever to buy one book about atopic diseases, this is the one. It is one of the most well-written books to help parents learn about asthma and allergies and become empowered to make informed decisions about their child's care. When I started reading it, I couldn't put it down because there are detailed explanations that no doctor has ever taken the time to explain and because it also validated what I have learned through trying experiences. A parent dealing with a new diagnosis of allergies and/or asthma would benefit the most from reading this book.Topics covered include what are asthma and allergies, different kinds of testing methods, types of medications and why they're used, treatment options, and social-emotional aspects of living with the diseases. Sounds dry, right? But far from the truth as the book is interspersed with the doctors' poignant lessons learned from patients and often funny stories about their personal experiences. The doctors' stories are witty and personable and I know I would love to be a fly on the wall to observe them together, with their patients, or mentoring allergists in training. What's really unique about the authors' vision is that a book will become out of date quickly so they maintain a website, [...], (same title as the book) to provide updates, share stories and commentary about the latest allergy and asthma news and research, and the website features guest posts by prominent doctors, researchers, and other related advocates.I highly recommend this book to any parent trying to manage asthma and allergies for their children, as well as to doctors to put a copy of this book in their waiting room or lending library.

By far the best guide on food allergies that I have found
When my kids were diagnosed with serious (anaphylactic) food allergies, I didn't know where to turn. I wish I had found this book sooner. Asthma Allergies Children puts food allergies in the context of the broader immune system, connecting the dots between food allergies, environmental allergies, asthma, and eczema. It is easy to read, and provides useful and practical information for parents. It is by far the best guide on food allergies that I have found, and I would recommend it highly to anyone parenting a child with food allergies, asthma, or eczema.

Helpful Information- A Good Read
This was a good helpful read. I read it from front to back in 4 days. Is helpful to know available treatments and terminology for Asthma. Seems they are the same here in Australia as described in an American book. I only wish I had access to such thorough and positive doctors here in Australia! My daughter is four years of age and newly diagnosed this Winter. I would love more books from these authors.

Great source of REAL information on allergies!
I have never written a review before, but I felt compelled to do so for this book. My son was diagnosed with a severe food allergy at 10 months, and I had never been able to fully wrap my brain around what we were dealing with or how we would manage it. This book has been a constant source of helpful information and it has provided peace of mind where I previously had none. Highly recommend!

Great resource!
This book has empowered me with knowledge and information and helped me make informed decisions for my children. It also gave me the power to ask our children's allergist important questions. It has lots of medical information, and yet, it's still written in a format that is easy to read and digest. I wish more doctors would consider the "whole" picture of a patient and work with the parents to provide top notch, quality care.

Great and Easy read
. It's very informational and a great practical guide. The information is broken down in a way which makes it both interesting and easy to understand. If you live in NYC, I highly recommend Dr. Ehrlich. He has a great bedside manner and takes the time to get to know your child and your parental concerns.
