Simple Answer, Just Buy It
Here's the 30 second skinny:If you were to memorize every code in this condensed book, then you would be well on your way to codes inspection. As a home inspector, many of these codes are familiar. However, there are still plenty that I need routine refreshers on.This book is dated from 2012, so it is not the most current, but more current than most for what it is.If you need extreme detail, perhaps buy the proper code related manual for your needs. This covers IRC, which works for me, and most codes in here are ahead of what I tend to find in most homes.Since home inspectors are not codes inspectors, this gives me just enough to research my questions and call out issues, without needing to cite code. Worth your money. Also, holds up relatively well in a work vehicle over time.

Wow thats thorough!
I am not a building inspector, builder, trade professional, or someone who needs to know this information. However, this is the information and requirements that all of those people must know and incorporate into any work done on your property. This is an exhaustive list of requirements, and I do not understand all of it. But there are good reasons for all of it. Much of it can be understood by the layman property owner. The material is broken out logically and easy to follow. Suggestion - buy this and skim through it before and during your projects. When the inspectors do come, you can ask them why they didnt notice a few red flag items! This book could be cheapest yet most valuable part of your next projects.

Good for home inspection beginners
This is not an extremely in depth guide, but great as you are starting your training as a home inspector. This guide ALONG with your master inspector training you can answer questions you have to avoid hand holding. I have it by my side at all times. Has the most common/basic things you'll need to internalize for basic walkthroughs. Laminated and easy to follow. Tabs at the bottom help you find what you're looking for quickly without thumbing through page after page. Color coded. Note****I have experience as a carpenter and cannot say that this guide will help someone without any building experience. Great resource though. I plan on getting the in depth manuals in the future.

Essential resource for building codes
Got this because I'm studying for employment as a building inspector, and as a licensed general contractor it's very easy to find the answers to any plumbing, electrical, HVAC or building questions that come up. Made to hold up to heavy use, laminated spiral bound pages. There's a page with abbreviations (ACH, AHJ, CMU etc) that is very helpful. The illustrations are very informative and well done. A must have resource

Handy reference, not a beginners how-to
Good for line-item check lists, aid for vetting or tracking contractors, proper work quality, project mgmt & an inspection list aid.Do need some trades knowledge and terminology to get the most out of it. Valuable tool, organized well.

This is Good, but Buy the Code Check Complete 2nd Ed. Instead :) !
Hello Friends,I just today received the Code Check 7th Edition and it is very handy and good. For a few dollars more, however, you can own the Code Check Complete 2nd Edition which is MUCH more comprehensive, by what appears to be literally hundreds of pages.Blessings and Safety to You All,Vince

Handy Reference
Another great reference book by Code Check. Great on site supplement to the building codes. Easy to read and nice illustrations. Helps give the homeowner an understanding of home inspection and the basics of building codes.

Helpful
I got this on suggestion from the local city code inspector. It is concise and dense with information. It answered TONS of questions I had in a very small format - no reading 4 pages to figure out what wiring you can't use, etc. VERY HELPFUL.

Good, simple information.
Code Check is a simple, straight-forward, well laid-out building code checklist. The pages come spiral-bound and plasticized. The only (small), concern I have, is that some of the abbreviations do not seem to match their descriptors. Otherwise, I find this a good addition to my library of building and construction books.
