Travels with a Writing Brush: Classical Japanese Travel Writing from the Manyoshu to Basho

A big mistake to read the book straight through, as I tried to do. The poems and stories all seem to blur together, one sounding very much like another. Instead, for me it worked better simply to read around, open the book and read at random, treat it as an anthology (which of course it is) to be picked up at leisure and savored over a long time.

For my son, who used to live in Japan. He seemed pleased

to read! and it is delightful
