Marauders by Gerry Duggan Vol. 1

“Marauders 1” collects the first six issues of the post-“Hickman Event” all-new, all-vegetable new X-team.I read these issues in the “Dawn of X” collections, (though I also have the actual Marauders volume 1 here, courtesy of my local library) where you get a much better feel, at least in the earlier issues, for the overall milieu of the new world, which you might not fully ‘get’ otherwise. So, mostly spoiler-free to begin with (providing you have read “House of X/Powers of X” which is the ground zero for the all-new all vegetable X-Men) – Krakoa is now the new home for mutantkind, and it provides teleportation facilities for them – except for one… “Call me Kate”.Anyway, she has to sail everywhere now, and so is tasked with running mutant-related contraband for the Hellfire Club (under new management), and her X-team are the all-new all-vegetable Marauders, with a big boat also named “Marauder”.New threats to mutantkind are being revealed across the X-verse, and some of them come to a head at the close of this volume, as we see the conflict between the factions of the Hellfire Club/Company make their way out into the open, along with the return of the Junior Hellfire club too. This is a well-written and illustrated story, and is a reasonably ‘fun’ title too, unlike many of the others, though with darker undertones and many ongoing sub-plots – a classic X-Men title, then

An excellent series
Excellent story. Ties in well to the X-men status-quo.
